St Beuno's is a Jesuit Spirituality Centre, a house of silence, where one can find come to rest and reflect on one's life to rediscover God, to pray and simply to 'be'.The place has a long history of being a place of prayer, discovery and discernment. Presently it is undergoing huge redevelopment and building works to improve accessibility, sustainability and to become more sensitive to environmental concerns. There are comfortable rooms many now have en suite facilities. The food quality is excellent, healthy and plentiful with special diets catered for with notice. Each time I have visited I left feeling some significant personal growth had happened. Coming here is both a sense of being called by God to set aside time as well as a free response to be attentive to prayer and reflection. There are art facilities, a library, woodland chapel, bookshop, fair trade goods, etc. Lots of walks around for the more energetic. It can be difficult to get a retreat place here at times as St Beuno's has an international reputation and welcomes people of good will and faith so spaces are booked up well in advance. Time spent here is so worthwhile.

I've just come home from a 6-day individually guided silent retreat which was everything I'd hoped it would be; an opportunity to disconnect from email, social media and work, to rest, recover from the last year and realign myself. The surrounding countryside is incredible and I really appreciated all the laminated guides to walks in the hills and valley. The house is a wonderfully peaceful place and the grounds are beautiful with many places to sit and contemplate, with the backdrop of stunning views across the valley and to Snowdonia. I am grateful to my assigned spiritual director who heard why I'd come and guided me with structuring my time and prompted me to try new contemplative and reflective exercises. At home, I'm an attender at a Quaker meeting and so didn't participate in the daily mass, although I very much appreciate the Ignatian basis of St Beuno's. The delicious, healthy food was plentiful and very welcome.

A Roman Catholic retreat house run by the Jesuits. It trains people in spiritual accompaniment and holds retreats. Most retreats are run in complete silence, apart from a half-hour session with a prayer guide and daily mass. Their website has full details. This is a place that takes God seriously, recognising God in all things. It has lovely surrounding countryside and walks and is a place for prayer and contemplation. Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote much of his poetry here. The accommodation and food are first class.

St Beunos and the reception/admin staff are absolutely fantastic at what they do here I cannot thank them enough in the way they handled a situation I found myself in a few days ago. Fr D and Shona what a fabulous duo with such a professional approach to the teachings of prayer I was amazed at how much information received in just a weekend.

The recommendation should be 100 stars not just these 5. Highly recommend the rooms the food the teachers all was just great I Thank you so much. Tony Standish Planning my...
