Hmmmm...... Knew they'd had problems so consulted their website seeing as they were not answering the phone. It said the visitor centre was closed but the car park, nature reserve and toilets were open. Fine! That's all we needed so drove over 60 miles to get there. When we arrived the gates were padlocked and a notice said that it was closed. Why???? Eventually a man came to open the gate to let a car out and said we should have looked on social media. We do not do any social media - we check for information on the official website. He said if we'd looked further on the website it would have been there. We looked at the opening times page. Silly us for thinking that's where the opening times information would be.😡 He said they'd probably be open the next day. Well guess what? We did not do a 120 mile trip and go back the next day! Not impressed and neither were the other five cars that turned up as we were sat there. I expect...

I am local and have been coming here for as long as i can remember to walk and enjoy the tranquility which is faultless but noticed that since past 4 month that RSPB staff have been giving me inmense hassle like they 'own' u,i often walk from carpark to Environment agency sluice and one day was stopped twice by a young lad saying 'u not allowed to walk along that way' as i am committing a 'criminal offense and disturbing breeding birds' lol.hell, dog walkers regularly use that way and today was clocked by a older guy when i was about to enter reserve area from Marshland trail on west side that i needed to wader thru 7 feet high nettles and grass! Beautiful place but their staff ruin it bigtime!

YWT staff at Spurn are far more pleasant...

A very nice little nature reserve, RSPB Blacktoft Sands offers many wonderful species to enjoy. In summer, there are many adult and juvenile Marsh Harriers which are flying around very visibly throughout the day. The volunteers there age very helpful, telling you where to see what. Also in summer, there might be Spoonbills visiting which are delightful birds, joined by commoner species like Green Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff on passage. There is also an abundance of Reed Warblers. Furthermore, there are many wonderful dragonflies to be seen...

It's very relaxing but I was disappointed how many birds I saw. There is binoculars to hire £4 and £5 for adults.
