I recently visited Pitmedden Garden and the Museum of Farming Life, and it was a truly delightful experience! The gardens are absolutely stunning, with beautifully maintained flower beds and pathways that invite you to explore every corner. The variety of plants and the vibrant colors are a feast for the eyes. The historical touches throughout the garden add a charming layer of depth to the visit, making it not just a visual treat but also a journey through time.
One of the highlights of my visit was meeting the friendliest black cat who seemed to have made the garden its home. This adorable feline added an extra touch of warmth to the experience, following me around as I wandered through the garden, and even taking a seat next to me while I admired the scenery. It was a small but memorable detail that made the visit feel even more special.
The Museum of Farming Life was equally fascinating, offering a glimpse into the agricultural history of the area with well-curated exhibits that are both educational and engaging. The staff were knowledgeable and passionate, which added to the overall experience.
I highly recommend a visit to Pitmedden Garden and the Museum of Farming Life. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful day out, this place has something for everyone. And if you’re lucky, you might just get a friendly greeting from the...

The rain was off and on but was able to wonder about.
When the rain did come we headed to the cafe for a cuppa and scone and traybake.
Afterwards, we decided to take the woodland walk. The weather was fine and dry. Sadly when we were still a bit away from the car park there was heavy shower and under the trees and muddy paths are walk came to a soggy end.
Apart from that it was a nice visit.
The only issue was the woman who we paid to enter the gardens. She came across as very pushy for us to sign up the National Trust. We understand what she was aiming at made sense if we were going to see other venues in the area. I felt that her sales pitch was pushy for us to sign up. She was the same with the other two that arrived at the same time as us. She was not the best. Can't remember her name but she had a badge on her hand.
Overall will...
Read moreWhilst the herbaceous borders were ok, the main attractions - the parterre - were in an untrimmed state and overgrown to the point where the details were not visible. The infill of formal planting was either covered by the overgrown box, was past its best or, in some areas, just bare earth. In some areas the box had been overcut into old wood and in other areas, whole stretches of box were dead. In short, it looked nothing like the many photos of immaculate planting which we'd expected. The flower beds closer to the house were sparsely planted with no flowers in bloom and bare earth predominant. I know NTS has had a hard time of late, and that it relies upon volunteers. But I was left thinking that these apparent showcase gardens had been abandoned for a couple of months. Didn't get my camera out once. Very...
