🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Magical Evening at Waddesdon Manor — History, Wine & Wonder

I recently visited Waddesdon Manor, and by sheer luck, it was a special evening event — the entire estate was beautifully lit up with decorative lights, outdoor games, and charming pop-up shops that created a festive and magical atmosphere.

The entrance is grand and breath-taking, giving you that wow moment right from the start. One of the standout experiences was the wine tasting, which is perfect for anyone who enjoys discovering new wines in a refined setting.

Waddesdon Manor is a French Renaissance-style château built in the late 1800s by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild as a weekend retreat. It’s now managed by the National Trust and the Rothschild Foundation. While Winston Churchill didn’t live here, he was a frequent guest and even stayed in the Portico Bedroom, famously stepping out onto the roof for a cigar during his visits.

The manor is surrounded by immaculate gardens, scenic walking trails, and even an aviary — making it a fantastic destination for families, couples, and history lovers alike. There’s also a playground for kids, and the whole estate is pushchair-friendly, which is a big plus for families.

🚗 Getting there: You’ll park in the designated car park, where you can buy tickets either online in advance or on-site. From there, a shuttle bus takes you through the estate to the manor itself — a smooth and scenic ride that adds to the experience.

🎟️ Tickets: Available online or at the car park 🍷 Don’t miss: Wine tasting, seasonal events, and the gardens 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Perfect for: Families, couples, photographers, and history buffs 📍 Location: Near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

Whether you're into architecture, nature, or just looking for a peaceful and enriching day out, Waddesdon Manor is a must-visit hidden gem in the UK. I highly recommend timing your visit with one of their special events — it truly elevates the experience.

Waddesdon Manor is easily accessible by car, train, and bus — with clear routes from major motorways and nearby towns.

🚗 By Car Waddesdon Manor is located just off the A41 between Bicester and Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. Postcode for SatNav: HP18 0JH From London, take the M40 towards Oxford, exit at Junction 7 or 9, then follow signs to Aylesbury and Waddesdon. From Slough, it’s about a 50-minute drive (33 miles) via the M40 and A41. Be aware of HS2 roadworks near the estate — temporary signs and diversions may be in place.

🅿️ Parking & Shuttle Park at the designated visitor car park off Silk Street. Tickets can be purchased online or at the car park. A shuttle bus runs regularly from the car park to the manor entrance.

🚆 By Train Take a train to Aylesbury Vale Parkway (served by Chiltern Railways from London Marylebone). From there, you can walk or cycle via the Waddesdon Greenway, a scenic 4km path to the manor. Alternatively, take a local bus or taxi from the station.

🚌 By Bus From Slough, take the X74 bus to High Wycombe, then transfer to the 130 bus to Aylesbury. From Aylesbury Bus Station, local buses or taxis can take you to Waddesdon village. During special events, additional bus services may be available.

🚴 By Bike Cyclists can use the Waddesdon Greenway, a safe and car-free route linking Aylesbury Vale Parkway to the manor. Bike racks are available at the Welcome Pavilion.

This makes Waddesdon Manor a well-connected and accessible destination whether you're coming from London, Oxford, or nearby towns. Let me know if you'd like a visual map or travel tips for a specific...

This is one of our favourite national trust places and we visit frequently I jus want to show my concern regarding the bus service

Upon boarding the bus heading towards the car park my daughter pressed the wheelchair stop button and the bus stoped suddenly sending everything and everyone on the bus flying forwards. The bus was crowded with families with children and elderlys, some of them standing or seated in the floor

Upon the unexpected breakage some of the people on the bus got hurt

The driver got out of his seat and start treating to kick us out of the bus in a rude and angrily tone

I've tried to explain that I was trying to stop my child pressing the button and she was just 2 years old and has autism

The rudeness continue and he told  us that the breaks are automatically activated as soon as the wheelchair stop button is pressed

We continue the journey down to the car park and I had to hold my child's hand all the way to avoid any more incidents, mind that she is an autistic child that don't like physical touch

My main concern is if the bus have a stop mechanism that is activated as soon as the wheelchair stop button is pressed should this button have same sort of preventative cover or sign advising other users not to press it?! Or a cover that keeps little curious hands away from it?!

If what the bus driver said is correct and the bus will automatically stop upon pressing this button

I do believe a risk assessment should be in place

As this is a serious health and safety hazard to passengers

Again I'm almost certain that a few passengers got hurt upon the sudden stop

I'm writhing this email based on the information that was provided by the bus driver of the sudden breakage/stop of the bus

But if the information is incorrect,

This specific bus driver put everyone that was on that bus at risk by suddenly breaking.

I do understand it has Easter weekend and the site was crowded

I do understand that is not always easy to deal with the public

I do understand that it was the end of the day and most of this sites are support by volunteers

I do understand that I should try and minimise my daughters behaviours so it doesn't put anyone at risk

And I do apologise if her behaviour caused discomfort and distress to anyone

But I do believe the way we were treated doesn't defend national trust values

And I sincerely believe this should be something that mite be addressed to prevent...

Stunning house with extensive gardens and parklands near Aylesbury. Built in the 19th century by the Rothschild family the house is designed like a French Chateau and is very opulent. It is filled with the most wonderful things, many French items and influences. Great art works by famous artists, sculptures and so much more. There is a great deal to see, this is definitely an all day visit. The house and estate are in the care of The National Trust. Their volunteer room guides are on hand in many rooms to give information and they really are a wealth of knowledge. I also joined a tour which covered several rooms and gave further insight into the generations if the Rothchilds who resided in the house, what they collected and how they lived. Outside to the rear is a Parterre formal gardens with a beautiful fountain. Another fountain can be e found to the front of the house. The Rothchilds have not meroys animals names after them including birds, there is a beautiful aviary to view which has numerous exotic and rare birds. The estate is huge and there are some lovely walks, if you enjoy peace and tranquility you will certainly get it. There are two places to eat near the house, a restaurant with table service or a refreshments kiosk. Away from the house there is The Stables cafe too. There are toilets near the house too and I believe by the Stable. The house is about a 20 minutes walk from the car park. A shuttle bus operates and stops at a few places around the estate including the house and the stables. It costs £2.50 pp and is a hop on/hop off service. The shuttle bus is free for disabled visitors. There are also some wheelchairs available but this is on a first come first served basis. Access is good on the main paths. There is also an accessible toilet. There are baby changing facilities. Parking and entry is free for National Trust members and chargeable for non members. You can join the National Trust for £7.50 per month for an individual adult membership but there are deals for couples families and 17-25 year olds. Dogs are welcome in leads in the outer...
