I was advised to go here for cake by someone I met at another attraction. I very much appreciate the suggestion, as it turned out to be one of the best places I’ve been.

The homemade cakes are absolutely gorgeous. I had a hard time choosing which I wanted, but I went with the carrot cake. It was moist and delicious as any good carrot cake should be.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They described all of the cakes too me and we had a few chats about Tŷ Hyll.

The best part (aside from the carrot cake) was the grounds surrounding the house. There are many bumble bees and honey bees flying around within the flowers. There was a lovely mix of flowers around, and there are walking trails that lead up with paths clearly marked.

Also available are information pamphlets about the house and various other attractions and walks in the area. These are available 24 hours a day, as the box sits outside and is unlocked – please donate if you wish to take one.

I definitely recommend dropping by and reading up on the legend of how and why the...

My Partner and his Dad had the Beef, Onion and Stilton toastie from the specials board and my Mother-in-law and I tried our first welsh rarebit. (Or ‘rabbit’ as the friendly and witty server said.) We were so impressed by the portion size; the salad was crisp, the coleslaw, onion chutney and potato salad was full of flavour and it was all absolutely delicious! We throughly enjoyed their own brewed tea leaf tea too. Our dog was warmly welcomed with treats of thick pieces of ham and beef too. I’d like to mention the lady with short blonde hair who was especially welcoming and fun! The toilet is a compost toilet and surprisingly smelt lovely. It was a novelty to use and actually felt good to support the environment. There is also a disabled toilet. The house itself is adorable and quirky. There is tons of info regarding the known history and a modern and informative Bee Exhibition is upstairs. There is a carpark for about 10 spaces. (We fit our motorhome and a car with trailer on.) There is a few tables inside and outside and dogs are...

Visited during Spring, when the sun was unusually out and warm. Had walked from Betws-Y-Coed through Gwydir Forest up to Swallow Falls and wished for a place to stop and rest. Ty Hyll, apparently known as The ugly house, didn’t look ugly to me. Built in one night (so says the Welsh history) the house remains standing, with smoke coming out of the chimney. In fact the smell of a burning fire permeated the air and it felt quite cosy and comfortable just being there. I had the Welsh cakes and they were delicious: warm and crumbly, the spiced flavour quite yummy. Didn’t try any of the toasts or salads. Staff was quite friendly and helpful. It had been raining so the chairs and tables outside were slightly wet, but the staff was very accommodating and wiped the chairs so we could sit and enjoy the pale sun. Dogs are allowed. Children too 😁 There is an outdoor chemical toilet that serves the purpose; it might be a bit wet to get there, though, if...

Visited in August 2019, while I had my Wales holiday. On the way to Betws y Coed I wanted to stop and see this famous tea room. It is sitting in a curve on the main road, so not easy to stop, especially that it has a very small car park in the same curve. It is usually full, so I felt lucky to get one space. The house has a tiny garden with a few tables where I sat. When I asked for the toilet I was sent to the upper garden where is a composting toilet. Not the friendliest place, but I saw worse in my life. After finishing my coffee I had a walk around in the upper garden, which has a few narrow paths around the woodland with some spots to stop and see: bird-feeder, wildlife pond, white cliffs. It is a nice little walk and I am pretty sure that most of the visitors miss it. There are a few stories about the house's history, who knows the truth? But the thing is it is a lovely little cottage, an old and special stone house which definitely worth to see.
