I've lived in Watford 40 years but only found this place the other day! Hidden away behind St Albans Road, parking is easy and there are plenty of entrances from surrounding roads. It's a surprisingly large open space, with well kept (if currently muddy, as is everywhere) open spaces / pitches; well-equipped playgrounds, suitable for everyone from toddlers to teens, and becoming progressively "wilder" as you go further back. Cross the stream into the nature reserve area, which includes open and wooded areas. Squirrels, foxes, bats and badgers all live here. Although it's very close to the M1 the terrain and trees keep it pleasantly quiet. Level access into the park, with recently re-paved paths make it ideal for the less-able, and even in lockdown there's plenty of space...
Read moreGarston park is a dangerous place after dark,a lack of policing or any kind of supervision has left it a haven for drug addicts, thugs and intimidation. I live next door to the park and have witnessed it deteriorate over the last couple of years.The powers that be assume that by investing in recreational apparatus it would invoke a favourable review, get real! An old school park attendant doing daily rounds to the few local parks to report on thr realities of the situation would be a start. Of course a good review would create a pat on the back for some official but a bad one will get nothing done, this unfortunately is the state of our small communal...
