Blackheath Common — Attraction in Waverley

This is a large heathland common, with wide areas of heather interspersed with invasive Scots pine and birch. Efforts are being made to restore the heather. The wildlife is rich, but has to put up with very heavy use by dog walkers and horse riders some of whom are inconsiderate. Many of the paths are heavily eroded. Visit before dawn in summer...

This is a truly wonderful adventure playground, with its criss-crossing paths among mixed woodland and open heath. It's a joy to go out walking, bike riding, horse riding or running along its tracks.

There's lots of wildlife to see and nature to enjoy. Watch out for adders on the paths on cold sunny...

I love Blackheath Common, it’s one of my favourite places to walk the dog. It has loads of paths zig zagging through its large area.
