The stories surrounding this small cave are really what make it. If you visit Waverley Abbey then I'd suggest spending another 20 minutes or so visiting this cave (short 5-10 minute walk from the Abbey carpark. Follow the footpath sign and slide left past the houses). The spring is still flowing out of the cave after all these years.....

Loads of history and myth surrounding the cave.I remember 20 odd years ago it was open and you could go in and explore but as usual health and safty comes first...Not a lot to see really....Nice little walk though on the rest of the heritage trail....plus we parked at waverley abbey and strolled up here as theres no parking 😁

This could be so interesting. The ceiling collapsed so the local authority has simply stuck a gate across it, instead of putting a bit of effort in. Tbh, hardly worth visiting, it's just a muddy hole in the wall, with a grid across the front. Even the information board is so badly aged, it's almost unreadable. A real shame

Small sandstone cave under a stone arch, sitting behind a gate (kept locked to protect bats living inside). There's an intriguing story outlined on an information board, which adds to the curiosity. Only a 5 minute walk from nearby Waverley Abbey, so worth the short diversion to see.

Not much to see but everything to feel. I love the folklore associated with this place, the tiny stream coming from the spring inside the cave, the birds, the river, the rare carr woodland. I can't wait to see it later in the year when the leaves are out. Just magical.

It’s an interesting place with some historical value. Unfortunate it’s gated up now so you can’t go in and the roof has caved in a bit. There’s a notice board outside explaining some of the history.
