This was built in the late 12th Century medieval period and originally called Newland Castle. One of the many moated border castles between England and Wales. Likely built by Matilda de Valery between the reigns of King Stephen of Blois to Henry II. Beautifully restored early in the 20th Century by Thomas Bartlett, a Doctor.
