A great place to visit for a reasonable price. Entry to the Anglo Saxon village is £7 for an adult, hch you access to the village and the museum. I have visited the village about ten years ago but my partner has never been and he found it really informative and interesting. There has been an effort to make some of the museum exhibits engaging for children. It is a small site and won't take long for you to explore but if you couple it with a walk around the country park, it will give you a good afternoon's worth of enjoyment. The country park was lovely to walk through and the paths are well maintained. The environemnt is varied including a lakeside and a forest walk. Car parking costs £2 for up to 2 hours and £3 for over 2 hours. It is a pay and display car park that you can either pay using coins or by phone. There is no card option. The cafe is a little pricey but that comes as no surprise. It isn't as expensive as the British Museum cafe but it is not as cheap as buying the same food from a supermarket. The food was good quality and we had no complaints.

Overall, we both enjoyed our time at West Stow and is somewhere we will visit again. If you are intereste din experimental archaeology or the Anglo Saxons, I highly...

Went to this country park and Saxon museum/ recreated village as part of a school trip.

Big carpark. Toilet block right at the entrance which was handy for everyone. Quick walk down to the museum. If you are into archeology and every small detail and find at a dig then this will be right up your street, however, there are a lot of small bits and pieces that don't really hold the attention of an average visitor and certainly not young kids. More weapons and visual aids such as art and picture displays would have made it that little bit more engaging. It is very well laid out and there is a Sutton Hoo replica helmet to try on.

The Saxon village is interesting but with only 8 or so buildings to look at/ go inside, it was all over pretty quickly.

We then did the Beowulf and Grendel trail walk which was really good. There are other trail walks to do but not having done those I can only comment on this one. You are taken through the woods, along a stretch of water and past some good stop points such as a large carved dragons head. Good for photo ops

We ended with the large adventure playground at the car park which all the kids enjoyed thoroughly.

A good three hours or so, but very much done and dusted...

Our visit was a Yr3 school trip. The site accommodates up to 120 children split into two groups. The day is split between a museum and the replica Saxon houses. Which you do first varies depending on number of visitors. There is a museum area with lots of artifacts and some interactive activities and booklets are available for teacher led activities. There is also an area for exploring replica artifacts again with information sheets for each object. The main attraction are the many interpretations of Saxon houses which have been set up to have different functions. Again there are booklets with information for teachers or group leaders to use as guides. Lunch is eaten in either the indoor education room or in a covered picnic area. It was a cold yet sunny day and the outside area was warm enough to sit for half an hour. The cafe outside the village entrance is spacious and clean and sells hot drinks, snacks and light bites. You can get takeaways but no food and drink is allowed in to the village site. There are toilets near the park entrance outside the village site plus an additional disabled toilet within the village. Despite the cod weather we had a wonderful day and the children learnt a lot about the Saxons.

Our first time to West Stow today and were so glad we came. The visitor centre is well laid out and informative and my 11 year old daughter loved going through what she learnt at school and sharing her knowledge with us. It was fascinating to see all the finds in the local area to us and even our home village. The 'houses' are great and it was lovely to go inside them and see all the uses for them. We especially loved the detail of the door latches and locks! The museum was clean and not very busy at all, so we had the freedom to look around at our own pace. Beautiful displays, well lit and informative. It cost us £16 for family ticket which is ok priced I feel. Car park is £2 for over 2 hour. Uou can park and not visit the centre and museum etc and just go to the play park and go for a walk. There are toilets which are located near to car park and play park, good clean condition. A cafe to do take away. But for indoor spaces you have to wear a mask. The visitor centre etc and the walk we went on was pushchair friendly , which was perfect. As trying to find somewhere for a walk and can take a pushchair has proven difficult in recent times. So a wonderful day out and id recommend a visit.

A return visit to a place we enjoy every time. The flint axes are spectacular on the way in to the village. The village is a great example of experimental archaeology and you can go into most of the buildings. Sitting on the throne in the Hall is a good photo op! But to then have the play park, country park and Berwolf trail too means you are spoilt. It's nice that the cafe now sells vegan magnums and flapjack (we have egg and milk intolerance to manage). February half term is also a great time to go when they have Lord of the Rings activities on - though Bagend is there all year! Dogs can't go into the Saxon village but are welcome I the country park - on leads only from March to July. The only negative to me is the village grounds, pig pen and saxon crops all seem to have more nettles every year. So if you love close see if you could volunteer!
