The aMazing Hedge Puzzle — Attraction in Whitchurch

Brilliant brilliant little diversion. I'm so please we followed the sign from on our way to Barry Island and discovered this hedge maze. There's a maze (30 mins) a little museum-wall about mazes (10 mins, a few games are there), mini golf, a cafe serving lunch and ice creams, lots of picnic seating, the butterfly farm and next door is the camping area with an arcade and inflatables park.

The maze is the best bit though. It's well-kept and the life's work of 2 brothers who had this wacky idea in 1977. Sleeping a shed for 3 years they made this hedgerow maze. One of the brothers said they did it to make them rich, but all they got was to make a living. Great way to spend a couple of hours. The kids loved trying to work out the maze and once you (finally) figure out how to get to the middle there's plenty of interesting info about mazes and complex puzzles to get your head around! Nice to stand on the bridge and try and figure out how to get back by looking down on the maze (and then getting lost again!) The gentleman at the start of the maze really takes time to tell you about it which is really interesting and he's very friendly. The butterfly (zoo?) inside is lovely too, fun to try and see if you can tick all the ones you see off the sheet you get given, and making sure when you leave you haven't got any attached to your coat (it happens, trust me!). I came here 22 years ago when I worked in Ross on Wye with PGL. We returned yesterday while on a family holiday and WOW. The maze is looking fantastic and was absolutely great fun for the whole family. Glad to see the two brothers still running this with just as much enthusiasm and energy as ever. We really enjoyed our time in the maze and played some great games including Marc/Polo and tag. The crazy golf was great fun and a brilliant addition.
