Lovely, gentle, access for all walk around the common. The car park (free) has an information board and is the starting point for the walks. There are no toilets. The loop takes approx 10mins on a tarmac path suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. The route passes memorial plaques, benches and information boards There are 3 picnic benches near the car park which space for a wheelchair. Along the loop are tree and nature information boards, along with bird feeders, bird boxes and Red Squirrel peanut feeders (3 at present). We have seen Red Squirrels, Roe Deer and Barn owls along with more common bird species. Sheila's Shiel is worth a look, situated on the grass beside the car park, it commenates Sheila the Collie who was awarded the Dickens Medal. Her story is on the information board in the car park.

Wooler Common is a true wonder. Yes people have commented on the lovely walks and rolling hills to explore but I was looking at the satellite photos on google maps of the area and saw a small circle. Curious on what it was, I headed to the area which is right next to the car park, just a short walk over the grass. What did I find... A secret walled garden, which is beautiful and to top it off on the day I went there was around 50/100 butterflies around the garden just fluttering around, it was truly magical. I am rarely lost for words but I was here, just my family in this small walled garden. Looking out I saw many people about 100 yards away just walking past on the walking path, oblivious that this garden existed. If you are passing by on a sunny day, do yourself a favour and stop by.

Great short pathed walk suitable for buggies, wheel chairs and those which are unsteady on their feet. Approximately 1km walk, can extend through the wooded area but this is not pathed and can become muddy. Loads of birds, and wildlife about. Large free car park on site and maps of the area on the notice board. Roads to the area are single lane but there are regular passing points.

No toilet facilities but free parking. Can pick up St Cuthbert's way here. If you're fit enough there are some lovely walks over the hills, it's possible to see the North Sea on a good day. As ever wear the right clothing and footwear for hill walking and use a map and compass if unfamiliar with the area. Adjacent to the car park is a short walk around a brook that feeds a small pond. The path is tarmac and designed to be suitable for wheelchairs, scooters and prawns. There are normally ducks on the pond and a variety of birds flying about and, if you're quite, you might just catch sight of a red squirrel. There are also some picnic tables, a couple with cut outs for wheelchairs, which is a nice touch and I'm sure is greatly appreciated by those who use them. There is also a small walled garden, with a bench, where you can sit quietly and contemplate your navel. A good time to sit here is when the 3 butterfly bushes are in flower, you'll be amazed by the quantity of butterflies! Worth a visit but use the bus station toilets first or you will have to...
