The best place to find out when it's open is the Facebook page. When it is open, there is a small charge that goes towards the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. There is a civil war reenactment playing out the Siege of the castle. There are plenty of bangs! You can bring dogs but maybe best not with the explosions. The castle is one of few in East Yorkshire and is more a posh manor house than traditional castle. About half remains to full height and there are information boards to guide you round. It had landscaped gardens and fish ponds. It is a grade 1 listed ruin and scheduled monument. It's privately owned and unfortunately not open to the public very often.
