This is a beautiful and well kept arboretum with a stunning Italian garden. We visited this Saturday, the weather was stunning. We took my elderly mother who can't walk unaided and needs to be pushed in her wheelchair. Wasn't sure how far we'd get with the wheelchair but realised there is a good amount of pathways that are paved. They are a little uneven which is natural but with a little perseverance we made it through the Italian garden, up to the arboretum, through the laburnum walk (this isn't paved and there are roots to avoid), saw the view across the sheep fields and turned back. Came out of the laburnum walk and went into the Acer and magnolia garden. Also did the kitchen garden and orchard. Had a wonderful lunch. Mom and I chose the cheese and ham ploughmans which were delightful and my husband had ham & mustard sandwiches which he said were very good too. Later we had double ice creams each. A great feature they have is the large paved area outside the cafe with huge umbrellas which gave a welcome relief from the beating sun. Very clean and well organized. Hope this helps any who are wondering whether a wheelchair user can get about here. I'd say yes - with a willing and...
Read moreCome here a lot but came this weekend and the que was out of the door of the tearoom ...luckily not raining! There was one girl behind the counter and another 2 in the kitchen, she was having to take food orders, make drinks and also deal with those (like us) that just wanted to pay for admission to the grounds. Everything and all on her own! We finally got our admission stickers, and off we went, came back later for food and again joined the back of an even longer que. No more help in side and the woman running in and out of the kitchen looked royally fed up and shattered! We gave up after 20 mins as not moving very fast and went to a local pub for food instead., Really poor and hopefully a one off , perhaps someone called in sick? But if that's the case, limit what is offered and stop putting on staff and making people getting fed up. Surely an admin only area for admission could be dealt with somewhere at the end of the room perhaps as i know the little hut outside deals with this sometimes in busier seasons but was closed this time. Was going to get some cream tea vouchers for family presents but thought better of it as they would hate...
Read moreWe visited on recommendation as we were staying near by. We weren't disappoint. On entry it looks quaint. Small plant sales area and rows of poly tunnels in front of a walled garden. You pay in the tea rooms (adults £5, children £2). We only bought teas and an ice cream so can't comment on the food but the cakes on display were varied at looked delicious. There is an impressive outdoor area to the tea room as well as a few indoor tables. The staff were friendly. The first thing you come to is the amazing Italian garden with an enclosed picnic area behind it. From here the grounds open up into a mass of trees, gardens, open grassed areas, and pathways. There were 4 trails for children to do and walking routes for adults. You could view the Severn Valley and watch the steam trains pass by on the other side of the river. Arley station is within walking distance as is a pub. We'll worth the visit. You can also buy a seasonal ticket - adults £20,...
