This nature reserve is definitely worth a visit (especially if youâre local), distant travellers... maybe not.
Four things stand out straight away:
You can see the safari. You can spot the Severn Valley Railway. You can still glimpse parts of the old military base. Finally you can find out where those radio masts you always see from Bewdley actually are!
There are some hills, but from the car park you can head up and then left towards Blackstone, or go right past the radio masts to a beautiful spot with a vista that takes in at least two of the above.
We love it here. The paths are great for your budding Evel Knievels to practice their two-wheeled skills, and there are plenty of points of interest for history buffs too.
Just note: there are no refreshments on-site, so bring your own â and please take your rubbish...

If you walk towards Bewdley it takes you to the red sandstone caves. The Devil's Spittalfull is another sight to find on this nature reserve, with neolithic caves and giant sandstone cliff to climb. The stairs to which are quite steep, but we'll worth the climb for the fabulous view. The Severn Valley railway line goes through it too, so even if you're not a train spotter, you can't help waving at ye olde steam trains. You can even see the safari park from one of the viewpoints. It's a lovely place for a family picnic and a good free day out. However, if you need the toilet, I suggest you find a good leaf and...
Read moreIt's a lovely place to walk my Dogs, from here the Rifle Range is accessible, by foot, horse or mountain bike. Until a few years ago it had hundreds of lovely trees, but sadly many of these have been felled now, with even more to follow. Only 3 stars is because of the amount of cyclists who will not use their bell to warn us they are cuming, together with the awful rudeness of a few. Many 'new ' dogs walkers are not as nice or as friendly as the people who have been going there for many years, they park with no consideration to other car park users and don't care if they block anybody in. It is also badly run. Why do I still go there? Because it IS lovely place. Try it for yourself...
