Family favorite! Free! Fun! We absolutely love it here. We spend a lot of time here in the summer and it never gets old for any of us. Sometimes we just walk through the front part, sometimes we also do the Land Of Oz. Sometimes we throw in going to see the animals or start there before we get too tired. Then of course we also have to ride the rides sometimes! There is a fun carousel with lights and music, a spinning high balloon ride, a little train ride, a teacup ride, a small roller coaster, and my favorite, a train ride around the park. There may be more I am forgetting as well since they are spread around the park. The rides are very reasonable. The food is not the best here, so we pack a lunch which no one makes a fuss over bringing in food. The snacks and drinks there are fun to get though! We like to bring a wagon or stroller for the kids, but they do have some to rent. The Storybook Land Festival they have in July is super fun to go to. They also have shows in the castle, as well as regular activities for kids there. I could keep writing, but I think you get the picture. Go! Even without kids just to have a nice walk. You will love it! Adding this update: they have a new park area within the middle of Storybook Land. It was built to be an inclusive park, so there are wonderful things to do for any age and ability to do together! I also hadn't written in my original post my kids favorite part which is a zip line in the Land of Oz. It's not huge so it's not monitored. Just a little fun thing we could stay at all day! Adding even more: As my kids are getting older, they still enjoying coming here. My kids are now especially excited about the goats! 😂 They love to watch the baby goats play, and also feed all of the goats. Storybook Land has also added in a new barn ride, which my kids are excited to try. Other aspects they really like now are the maze, the various instruments around the park, the gift shop, and the...
Read moreOnce upon a time you were young and feasted on great books that transported you from your little kid world to the epic world of fantasy. Get ready to turn another page like Bob Seger because the South Dakota Parks Dept. has created an entire land dedicated to the world of make believe in a beautiful nature setting. We drove 4 hours (stopped at The Corn Palace & Hungry Dog on the way) and let me tell you it was worth it. It’s located inside a park- free admission and what awaits you are these incredible renditions of classic tales. Truly fun for the young and young at heart. Snap some pics, follow the yellow brick road and listen to the fun storylines from characters you know and love. Beautiful trees, water features, and just plain old fashioned fun. Remember fun? Yeah it still exists. Disconnect from the every day and escape to a time where books were the internet and playing outside till the street lights came on was the best day ever. (Please note the gift shop is only open part of the year but you are free to still...
Read moreFirst time visit. Tip, park in Storybook land parking lot, not along road to avoid more walking then necessary. Moved car once i realized this. Get tickets for train, carousel, other rides at gift shop or concession right when you get in. $14 for 10 tickets. 2 and under don't need one. 10 was enough for us with one kid at 2 yrs. Just didn't do balloon ride in land of oz. Do train right away. Runs every 12 min about. Sit in back to avoid diesel fumes. Wasn't much but will avoid near front next time. Don't bother listening to driver giving tour over speaker. All garble....kinda funny though. Now get your walking shoes on and prepare for miles. Dorothy's house has a cool tornado in it. Handle was broke on door but unlocked so had to jimmy it to open. Spent another $20 at thunder road for go-karts for the the kids. Well kept park. Amazing that its all free to see everything. The whole park and go-karts took us about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. May come back but kind of one of those have to go places and...
