This was my very first time coming here and I can say it was very different than I expected. My first impressions did not give me a lot of hope for the rest of the day. The midway area is very small with only a few games and a small dining area. I would love to see this area built up a little more. The midway prizes are understandably small, but considering the price they’re not bad. The little souvenir shop had a good bit of variety, but we would have loved if there was a coffee mug. The ‘pay to scare’ booths are a great idea I’ve never seen before. The entire experience took only about two and a half hours, and didn’t feel to be very crowded at all.
As for the actual attractions I can say going in I was a bit nervous. Not so much because of the scares at first if I’m being honest. Not knowing what this would be like I started to expect a small, touristy walk through with a few gimmicky jump scares and props. While those were there what I wasn’t expecting was the outright level of creativity put into the attractions. My only real, honest wish would be that there would one day be some kind of story attempted with these attractions. A nightmare to pull off I know. But this is the first time I’ve actually felt like the team behind the park has what it takes to do it. It didn’t take long for the first ‘unexpected’ event to happen and it really was a good start to the scares.
The four attractions do a brilliant job of setting up atmospheric environments. Every set piece in the hay ride was great and we were always excited to see what the next one would bring. There was so much variety we never knew what to expect. I can understand why phone’s aren't allowed, but there were some places I was desperate to get pictures of. The haunted maze is by far the weakest link in the attraction, the biggest issue being that I’m not sure how to correct it. There isn’t much ‘maze’ which was regrettable, but I’m sure if it was that would lead to a lot of congestion. The open area also made it difficult for there to be a lot of atmosphere here. It was just mostly walking down a path while scarers came and went.
Of course these types of attractions aren’t much good without the people that run it. Not only were there much more cast members than I was expecting, but not one of them that I could see was backing down. There were a few places where I was surprised to see that it was actually a real person. Even the ones running the gates had their own humor and tricks that were fun. The hay ride was their shining gem, the scarers here might as well be full on stage performers. Everything from costuming to energy was surprisingly well done.
Overall this was extremely well done and I look forward to coming back at least a few times every year...
Read moreOctober is my favorite time of the year. It’s a time to soak in the vibrant fall colors, cool, crisp air, and, of course, all the haunted houses. Since 2012, my friends and I have made a tradition to visit a handful of haunted houses each year during Fall. Last year we chose Legends of the Fog and were thoroughly impressed by the creativity of the artists and actors. We decided to go again this year because we genuinely had a good time last year. It was one of the most memorable nights we experienced, not just at a haunted house, but as a group activity this year! The Farewell Hotel combined a suspenseful scare factor with a maze-like design where you had to find your way out through a myriad of rooms, tunnels, and dead ends. The actors added an additional fear factor with their make up and wardrobe. They knew how to lure you into a lull and scare you when least expected. A short film sets the scene for a post apocalyptic world as you wait to enter the haunted hay ride. A selection of Metal and Rock plays in the background at each haunted stop as you near the end. The tractor unloads the audience as you descend upon a dark path with dimly lit flash lights. What lies in the woods was amazingly scary and I remember screaming several times. The creative minds behind this production took the time to be detailed to find better ways to scare you. They added several new props to the attractions since last year and they keep finding ways to re-engineer sheer terror! My only negative remark was how slow it took to get food and the limited choices their vendor of choice had. We chose French fries after finding out they didn’t have funnel cake or fried Oreos. We waited around for a while to get our fries only to find out the friar had broken. The worst part was that they chose to give the last few batches of fries to a few people that had ordered after us. If you decide to visit only one haunted house this year, make it Legends of the Fog. Note: We went in mid October when it wasn’t very crowded and bought the speed pass which enhanced the experience. I am not a paid spokesperson of LotF or, in any way, associated with them; just a lover of Fall...
Read moreOverall experience here was good to great. I love the thrill and adventure that these places have, but from what I'm learning, the hayride excursions have been severely lacking in entertainment. This one has a huge potential in the thrill, but the actors just didn't seem up to par with making it fun. The story line was fine, but just didn't seem to interact with the guests much. Other places had better performances in my opinion, but the others rides were very long and trailers where tooooo long. The trailer size here imo are perfect size for the actors to get to everyone...just needed more heart in it. But, you start your adventure here, cause its the first to close up for the night.
Next we went into Farewell Hotel. This attraction gave me The Shining movie vibes! Here i think the actors did quite well, folks around us and included my group was getting a excellent thrill with the being spoked.
Afterwards, we ventured into the Slaughter House. They did really well, but in my opinion, not as good as the Farewell Hotel.
Finally we arrived at the Corn Stalkers maze. You can call it a maze all you want, but in reality, even though there were signs out in the stocks, it really was a 1 way thru maze. Here though, I think the actors were awesome! The group I was with and the one that was other group that got joined with ours, got nonstop thrills and startles from actors in the maze jumping out and scaring you.
In my opinion in order of best to eh, we start off with (A+)Corn Stalkers, followed closely with (A)Farewell Hotel. Third would be the (B- to maybe a C+)Slaughter House. Unfortunately much improvement needs to be in the actors department for the Haunted Hayride, potentially could be a higher rating, but for this time I would go with a (D+). If I thought what was in it sucked, it get an (F), but the adventure itself was cool!
Maybe we will try this again in a few years to see if anything has changed, but for first time experience, we all had a...
