Great accessible trail in Acton, ME. Trail is well-maintained and marked. There are a few places where you can use switchbacks or side trails but those are not accessible-compliant. The information bulletin indicates this trail “meets Forest Service Outdoor Recreation Accessibility Guidelines for grade and service.” The information board indicated this trail is 0.7 miles from start to summit so factor in that the total mileage will be about 1.4 miles if you do the full out and back (my Fitbit gave me about the same reading for mileage). This trail is easy but does climb the whole way up to the summit - information board indicates it climbs 151 feet. There are lots of beautiful benches to take a rest as you proceed. At the summit there is a small loop with picnic tables that are spread apart from each other. The views from the summit are very nice. I would recommend this hike for anyone and especially those looking for an accessible trail, folks with small children, and people who might be new to hiking. This is a great hike to bring a meal to eat up at the summit. I enjoyed the trail in the late evening just before sunset. There was plenty of parking in the lot and a portable toilet at the start point. Overall, a...
Read moreGoat Hill is a beautiful, but small, afternoon hike. The parking lot is large and obvious, just north of Romac Orchards (on the left, if headed north).
The Three Rivers Land Trust is trying to get the trail ADA compliant! The path is smooth and wide to allow it to be handicapped accessible. It would be easy to bring the entire family along.
At the top, there are a few picnic tables, all with views of the surrounding hills. There is even a view of Mt. Washington! You can also see Wilson Lake and Square Pond from the summit.
There was not a soul to be seen on the afternoon I walked here. This place could easily become a...
Read moreI was looking for a place for a run in Acton and it was quite nice. A well built trail with amazing views at the top the hill. I was shooting for a 4 mile trail run and it required 2 laps up and down with an extra lap around the disc course field at the top. My daughter uses a power chair for mobility and I was scouting for her also and I think it would be a bit bumpy for her with the slightly larger gravel selection. A more fine crushed gravel that is compacted would make it more doable for her but I’m sure most wheelchairs/ power chairs or scooters could get up without...
