Lake Allatoona — Attraction in Acworth

History on this lake is pretty cool... Corps of engineers project, to keep downtown Rome from flooding in the spring (could happen as often as 5 or 6 times a year, I'm told), the Etowah River was dammed up at a point very close to the old Cooper's furnace, creating a reservoir of drinking water, as well as a small hydroelectric power station. The public day use areas located in Bartow and Cherokee counties are well tended for the most part and feature concrete ramps long enough for even large house boats go into and come out of the lake, but only during late spring and early summer, when the water level is up... Unfortunately for locals, Allatoona is almost always drained completely by early fall, and can actually be an eyesore in spots that are under water for half the year, but the other half are a kind of muddy swampy wetland... But, it's MUCH cheaper to dock a boat here than at Lanier or lake Blue Ridge, so... Good if you live in North GA and...

It's great know matter how you decide to enjoy it. Examples: If you can see the water you can fish however like!!! ! Just buy your license on line(or app). Day use areas great for picnics (some places have a permanent grill for use) sitting in nature & getting in the water! You want to stay longer? Plenty of campgrounds to pick from. Some are hidden private treasurers & others are open, kind, neighborly & kayak/boat friendly! You only kayak. Pick a spot & launch. You just want to take your boat out? Boat ramps all over Allatoona Lake. It does cost to park so either have cash or plastic. Some places only take one or the other. Don't have a boat. You can rent one & jet skies too. You are hooked & don't want to leave. Buy a home on Allatoona Lake. No matter how you LakeLife, just you or the whole family fur babies & all, you'll have made memories to talk about for...

They claim to have security watching your cars but they DON’T! My car along with about 8 other cars were broken into in broad daylight and all of our valuables were stolen! Even three vehicles that were parked right by the dock! They broke the lock on my driver side door stole a duffel bag full of clothing and valuables out of my trunk in addition to my bookbag with my laptop and all of my books and calculators for my classes.
