If I were to rate based on the lake, this would be 5. BUT, for RV camping, it is pretty rugged! The roads are the worst we have experienced. Serious potholes upon entering, curvy hills with broken up roads and speed bumps…why speed bumps to make it even more challenging for your RV especially pulling a vehicle🤷‍♀️.Office was nice, you can only call for reservations. But ask a lot of questions about the site available. We had option of 5 or 6 and I asked, which is better and they said 5. Absolute worst site in the grounds😡. 6 is concrete, more functional room, more level. Ours is up against a small eroded hill so we can’t open our storage to get our camping chairs, grill and wood out! We did get to our beach chairs. Plus our front wheels are a few feet off the ground for leveling. Found a few ticks on the dog and we are fighting mosquitoes, not that they can do anything about it, just FYI. No sites are tended to, they do have free laundry and we needed that, pretty clean except for a few spider webs. Water and electric work fine for us. Nice day trip, boating launches,...

Even before the pandemic madness, after the B.R.A.C. realigning and closing of bases world-wide, the "World Famous" Navy lakesite of old is not quite the same since being adopted by the Kings Bay naval MWR. Though they're still providing a much needed but all too rare camping, cabin rental, outdoor recreational facility for active duty and retired military, DOD civilian employees and their families.

The staff is still very helpful, amenities have improved some over the years but, especially now, the water sports rentals, cabin rentals and boat slip rentals are all hit and miss it seems so you MUST call ahead before setting your day, weekend or vacation plans in motion.

Strict rules and guidelines still apply as to who can rent, your responsibility during your stay and how far in advance you can rent a boat, cabin, pavillion, etc.

Overall.. we loved our stays here and appreciate it...

Camp site's are "still' in need of upgrade/repair. Not big rig friendly. We were looking to rent an annual boat slip, but once we found out that they no longer offered boat trailer storage - what's the point... Staff were friendly and supportive as always. Leadership really needs to workout the boat trailer storage problem. In my opinion, this issue will hurt buisness long term. Also, we noticed and reported a scuttled boat at dock #3. The staff indicated they knew and the boat owner had been contacted, but was unresponsive.. What a shame, if I were in charge, the boat would immediately be salvaged at the owners exspense. What a horrible position for the Navy to be placed in. I would definitely add requirements to the contract. The last time I looked, storing boats on any base is a privilege,...

Went here for a picnic. The area I was at was nice as far as the views, it has a little man made beach and access to take a boat ride around the lake. My main issue was parking. The situation is horrible, you can't comfortably drive to that particular section unless you have an SUV. The roads are gravel and have steep declines. I definitely didn't like driving my sedan into there.

A quiet, woodsy, military campground right on the shore of a huge lake complex about an hour NW of Atlanta. Nice sites for RVs along with cabins to rent. The area is a mix of urban and rural with ample shopping available nearby, while the park is very "country," peaceful, and refreshing. We've stopped there twice while traveling through the area in our RV.
