We have been going to Will's Family Orchard for the last 4 years as our primary location to get autumn stuff. We love that it is not over run by crazy people. A short country drive off of the pavement takes you out to a quaint little farm west of Adel.
The first thing you notice is the huge pumpkin patch next to the entrance. Lots of room to park. We usually take a quick trail walk around the patch, and then head through the corn maze. We also like to take the hay ride around the orchard to explain to the kids where all the apples come from.
Stop by the apple barn where there is always lots of yummy treats and the best apple cider you can buy anywhere. Try the pie. Petting the goats and playing a little bag toss is the last thing we do before we head out to pick our pumpkins. Grab a cart folks, these pumpkins are huge. Five foot into the patch and you already think you found the perfect pumpkin. Keep looking, there are tons. And for all you health crazy folks, the farm is certified organic. I think it is what makes the cider so good.
Only negative I can think of is the road to the orchard can be a bit dusty. But it is worth the trip. This family friendly orchard and pumpkin patch is the perfect way to spend a nice quiet autumn day in the country. Unlike some patches around Des Moines, this one does not charge admission just to get in. So get out of town and head to Will's Family Orchard this fall and get a little...
Read moreArguably one of the top 3 pumpkin patches in town. I frequently write reviews for local hot spots and have to say… this is a favorite. It’s popular for a reason but the farm is big enough that the only wait you’ll have is to buy food or tickets.
From start to finish we enjoyed our adventure to this orchard.
Plenty of parking.
Cute goats, pigs, and chickens to pet.
Yummy and fresh kettle corn available on site.
They sell jams, custom soaps, pumpkins, gourds, hand knit apple hats, a variety of apples, cider, pickles on a stick, brats, fresh donuts and more.
We enjoyed the little corn maze a lot.
The tour was by a young farm hand that made the hay ride feel like the first one he had to do that day, even though it was probably his hundredth!
Plus there are plenty of options for cute family fall photos.
The kids area is part of the entrance tickets. 2 yo and under are free. Our kiddo loved playing here.
This farm is extremely well taken care of. All the fences look new. Highly recommend this orchard for a fun...
Read moreI am from California, moved to Minnesota in 2016 and Waukee the end of 2016 - needless to say, I've been around and visited many pumpkin farm/apple orchard places. Wills Family Orchard is, by FAR, the best I've EVER been to. The lady in the shop, the gentleman leading the hayride and the young man overseeing the pumpkin patch were all very friendly and helpful! They went above and beyond to ensure my two young daughters and I had an amazing time. Every step of the way they were informative, friendly and engaging. The apple picking was amazing - petting the goats was unforgettable and the play area for the children was so much fun. We highly recommend...
