Stopped here to get our ice cream fix on our drive back home from Yellowstone. Are we glad we did. There's a signage by the road and we had to pull into this lot to find a big red building with the sign "Farm store" on it. We got in and found the place empty. It appears that the establishment is in the process of remodeling/construction, but there were products in the freezers and refrigerators. So, we looked around and found a sign by the front counter that says "Weekdays, Self Checkout"; so, we did just that. We decided to enjoy our chosen ice cream at their almost-finished bar. We are ice cream monsters and this is by far one of the best gourmet ice creams we've ever had..and we've tried plenty. We got the How Now Brown Cow flavor. Amazing!! As we were enjoying this deliciousness, a local family came and then the owner. We had a little chat with them and learned more about their dairy business. Shumway Farms is one of two dairy farms left in the area. There were 200(!!) back in the day. They have stood the test of time..and COVID. Aside from the ice cream, they do sell their own pasteurized milk, chocolate milk, and yogurt. What a great find this was for us. Too bad this creamery is 600 miles away from home. Otherwise, this'll...
Read moreWe stayed at Shumway Farms in our fifth wheel through our Harvest Hosts membership and everyone we met at the farm was so kind. The kids got to help feed the calves with bottles and the ice cream was so, so good. This was my first time having raw milk and we bought a bunch of fresh eggs, ice cream, chocolate and whole milk and cream for the camping trip we had ahead of us. It was all so delicious and reasonably priced. The kids said it’s the best chocolate milk they’ve ever had. Hoping we can find a place to get raw milk products in Colorado.
The piglets were adorable and the farm dogs were super sweet and it was fun to watch them try and herd the kids. Tempting to get one for our house! All in all, I can’t imagine it’s easy to have a bunch of strangers poking around in farm operations and Jody couldn’t have been nicer about answering our questions and letting the kiddos be involved. We had to drag them away from calf feeding the morning we left and I felt like Jody and Max would have let them help all morning. It truly made their week. I hope we can visit again someday. Thank...
Read moreThis is a great pit stop for your travels through Wyoming, Afton and Star Valley. We got chocolate milk and ice cream. The have few flavors but you can't go wrong. My daughter got the Huckle Berry and I got the banana cream pie. I prefer a little crunch in the banana cream pie but it had the right amount of banana flavor. The Huckle Berry was fun to eat with the frozen fruit. The kids loved the crunchy frozen fruit. They also had milk, raw and chocolate milk. They also had fun items such as yogurt, fun soap bars, sourdough and other cool stuff. Check out my pictures for other items they will have. As you drive on 89 through Wyoming you can pull it up on Google maps and it is a parallel road to 89. There is plenty of parking, a sand pit, a couple swings, and cows for the kids to look at. Check out the fun pictures I have attached. I took a picture of their store hours so you can be...
