Agawam Library — Attraction in Agawam

Went to the Open Lego for Kids Grades 1-4 today with 3 of my boys on 8/21/24 and had one of the most disappointing experiences in a library event that we have ever had. Staff was nice and friendly one was hosting and other was taking photos for this event to put on agawam library media. There were two other children in the group one child of which kept intentionally taking legos from one of my boys who has mild aspbergers and saying he must have lost them and that they themself had it all along/found it in the bin. This really triggered my child and made him upset and we were trying to work through it. But he couldn't even go through 3 lego bins without the same child glaring at him and continuing at provoking him. I was the only parent present at the event I guess apparently it's normal to have your child go into this event alone but the ongoing behavior made my child very uncomfortable that we actually had to leave the space leaving all my kids in tears feeling heartbroken about it all since they didn't get to finish their projects they were working hard on for 30 mins as I wasn't about to leave them alone in there in that setting. Thinking maybe a solution to this could possibly be having all parents present and involved at the programs as I have seen that at other programs in other libraries we have attended in our area where kids seem more understanding...

An absolutely wonderful resource! I don’t live in Agawam, but helped introduce new arrivals there, whose English is limited still, to their library. The staff is truly helpful, friendly, and kind!
