If you love Minnesota history and you are a Paul Bunyan aficionado of any kind you will absolutely love this place. It is full of a hodgepodge of different artifacts, memorabilia, old newspapers, clippings, propaganda, old posters And your books and everything else you can imagine coming from a small town. The volunteers really go out of their way to make it a great experience talking about the different artifacts and what they know.

Driving through Akeley we decided to stop at the Paul Bunyan museum. Even though the museum wasn’t open it was a fun little stop. The nicest and kindest lady stopped and just started talking to us telling us about the museum and took some photos of us. We grew up learning about Paul Bunyan and his story so it was a nice stop to stretch the legs and enjoy some time there.

This is a great little tourist spot, that is ran by volunteers. Great remembrance to those who brought us freedom, and a great spot to stretch the legs, and take a cheesy photo. Hit up a downtown restarunt and enjoy the quiet small town atmosphere.

Many exhibites, staffed by knowledgeable docents. The Akeley Paul Bunyan Historical Museum is located on Main Street immediately behind the large statue of Paul Bunyan.  The Museum was opened in 1984 and contains an interesting collection of pictures and artifacts portraying the early Akeley history when the largest sawmill in the state was located here and the population was between 3,000 and 4,000.  The Museum is open daily from noon until 4:00 p.m. during the summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  It is supported solely by donations from individuals and organizations. Also located next to the fabulous Hartland...
