This place is really cool! The museum is like one that you would find at a National Park or in a big city, very well done displays and the artifacts are curated very professionally. Going out to visit the cemetery and knowing the history behind the necessity for it is very moving. As an extra treat they host several living history events throughout the year. Bi-annualy they completely fill the barracks and really bring the place to life! High quality reenactors come from all over the country to portray soldiers living in winter quarters and doing drill demonstrations. This year (2024) they had additional folks with horse drawn artillery and cannoneers doing standing gun drill as well as firing demonstrations. Hopefully they'll do it again in 2 years! Check the schedule for more information and dates of their events. Lastly, and most importantly, the park's staff are great folks and VERY knowledgeable. This place is a must-go and is great for day tripping from Atlanta, Montgomery,...

We were up in Birmingham for an annual checkup. After that we had nothing on schedule so we looked up some state parks on our route back and came up on the Confederate Memorial Park: 437Road 63, Maubury, Alabama 36051. This is a large, well-maintained park supported by the Alabama Historical Commission. The park is beautifully wooded. It has a moderatly sized museum full of civil war era artifacts. Calvin Chappelle is the site director. He is knowledgeable and congenial. He knows his stuff and can answer any and all questions about the war. This particular location was where the Confederate Soldiers Home was located. There are several locations on site that are worth seeing that you can drive to. There are 2 cemeteries, a picnic area and several buildings that are original to the site. Bring you camera....

Very nice experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were neat. The museum is small, but definitely worth checking out as they have some interesting items and nice displays. The only thing that would have made it better is if we could have gone into the post office and church and seen the inside of those buildings. Maybe they are unlocked some days or for special events. We were there on a Monday morning with very few other visitors. It was still very pleasant to walk around, read about the history, etc. Overall we really enjoyed the visit and we would visit again if we are ever...

Confederate Memorial Park is the site of Alabama's only Confederate Soldiers' Home. The site operated from 1902-1939 as a haven for disabled or indigent veterans of the Confederate army, their wives, and widows. I visited in April during the "Civil War Living History" event. Very interesting and informative. You can visit the Graves of Confederate Soliders, and gain insight into their lives- in the Confederate Memorial Park Museum. Their are numerous hiking trails, outdoor tables, and grills. This is a great place for a day away with family and friends. A hidden piece of history located in Marbury, Alabama.

While traveling on this Memorial Day, I passed a huge flag. Pulled over to Google the meaning and reason behind it flying to beautifully. Boom there it was! Don't know how you would ever know it's there and Even though due to Covid 19 the museum was closed, the whole park is beautiful. Very peaceful and for me informational. I enjoy reading the plaques and learning what took place in the same spot I'm standing so many years ago. Even some actual original structural pieces to observe. Very nice memorial for the CSA! Thanks to each and every one of you men and women!
