Absolutely fantastic representation of what a state park should be! Not only is there a large and expensive facility right here on the beach, but all of the extra services offered here really help make the entire experience a lot of fun!
The pier alone is a great experience to walk out on all the way to the end and look around and see the vast expansive ocean ahead of you in around you. You can also just show up and pay the appropriate reasonable fees and be fishing in less than 15 minutes.
The main facility at the base of the pier rents poles, sells bait and sells tons of tackle, gear and fishing accessories. The other shops around sell food and drinks at reasonable rates, and you can even by yourself a soda way out on the pier in case you get hot. Bathroom facilities exist both at the entry to the pier and about halfway out.
I took my three kids out for a few hours of fishing, rented a couple of poles with a few buckets of bait and it cost under 60 bucks. The two little fish we caught put up a fight seemingly way above what their body weight implied!
If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Gulf Shores or Orange Beach I would highly recommend you stop by here for at least an hour to go and see the sights and spend even longer here if you want to have some...
Read moreWhere to begin? Absolutely wonderful pier! It has a bronze sea turtle sculpture at the very beginning with some general info on sea turtles which is pretty cool. You walk up and there is a store on the right with two windows next to the store, (that’s where you pay to get on) it’s 3 to sightsee and I believe 9 to fish. Alabama salt water license is required. there is a little bar/snack shack type deal to the left, was very relaxing just chilling having a beer, the bartender was super nice, going on to the pier you’ll notice it has cleaning stations, water hoses and benches. midway down there is a 2nd set of bathrooms. it’s wide so if you’re sightseeing you don’t feel in the way of the fisherman. The pier goes out for a good ways, all kinds of good catches. Definitely a place to go if looking to do a little fishing while in town. Sightseeing is enjoyable as well. No telling what you’ll see. Anything from crabs to sharks. The scenery is just beautiful. I do suggest bringing a good cooler with allot of cold water if planning to stay for a while, it gets really hot during mid day. Umbrella, sun mask, sun screen, hat,...
Read moreThis pier is a true gem in Gulf State Park and the entire area. Small fee to park a vehicle and enter the pier, but well worth it. If you fish, bring your gear for a chance to catch several species of saltwater fish. If you want a lesson, I highly recommend signing up for Angler Academy through the AL park services. The instructor was very knowledgeable, helpful and excited to be there. We caught Spanish mackerel, flounder, and spike fish. We also saw a shark, sting ray and school of tuna swim by the pier. Very cool. Highly recommend going around sunset for best fishing and opportunity view creatures in the water. Also to see a beautiful sunset. Snack stand and fast casual eatery on site. Staff was amazingly friendly. Everyone was happy to be there....
