it's like 20 years ago the last time visiting this glacier, it took more than 30 minutes walk to reach the ice. It was fall time in October. Noticing the receding of the glacier already, feeling sad for us humans not realizing climate change was already serious two decades ago... passing the tipping point already. By now, 2024, if you're taking more than an hour to reach the ice wall, that means we are heading towards the the end of glacier watching, or they are disappearing altogether sooner or later. The glacier itself is a history book. The blue color of the ice formed by the immense pressure from its own weight, hundreds of years ago, is already something for us to ponder for a long time. Choosing the low season to visit could avoid the crowd of summer vacations, and avoid the notorious Alaskan bugs I thought I couldn't handle wearing a protective headgear/ netting hat. hah This is a place you wouldn't regret going to see, whichever season you go, as it's very educational to your kids and a nice walk along the now green trails in many months of the year. Enjoy whatever you could see before...
Read moreSuper easy walk to see this awesome glacier. There’s a parking lot at the beginning of the trail, we got there early and started the trail at 7am. There was no one else on the walk which was nice. It’s very well maintained and extremely minimal incline/decline. Very suitable for family’s & kids of any age or fitness level. The walk wasn’t very long either, it only took us 25 minutes to get to the glacier. Once we got to it we noticed the part that would get us on to it was broken away from the glacier itself. So instead we just climbed through a section that was easy to get as far in as we could. We went climbing over the rocks to the top and other side which was nice to explore. Just be careful as not all the rocks are super stable and they were slippery when we were there. With good hike shoes and stability you will have no problem but be cautious. We were able to explore the area for quite some time and take some stunning photos. As we started to head out we noticed a lot more people heading in. Definitely recommend doing if you’re in the area! Celine -...
Read moreThis is a nicely groomed trail. It is not very long. There is not a lot of elevation. It is very easy for people of all ages. It is wide enough for strollers and probably wheelchairs. There is one about 30 feet of the trail that has a slope where it might be harder to use a stroller. There are lots of mosquitos & there are berry bushes along the trail up until you get to the clearing at the glacier. There is a nice little bench at the end of the trail. There are lots of rocks around and up the glacier. It is melting a lot. Snow may not be stable and can calapse if you walk on it. The water flowing from the glacier...
