I would give it more stars if I could. It has always been a dream of mine to come to Alaska for the Iditarod and I am one step closer now. It was an amazing experience to see how the dogs are trained and learn more about the race I have watched for so long. My whole family loves dogs. We have done foster and rescue work back in Florida and were foster failures with our current staffordshire pittbull Royal.
We parked our RV at the sales office across the street from The Denali Princess as that is where we were being picked up by the shuttle for Husky Homestead. We had a short 20 minute drive in the shuttle van to the location. When we stepped off the bus we were handed a puppy to cuddle. We were the last shuttle bus there so we didn't have as much time with the puppies as we had hoped but we did get a great family photo on our own camera thanks to the Husky Homestead staff. My photographer son was having a field day photographing all the dogs.
We then sat outside to learn about how the dogs live and train. It was fascinating to see them run pulling the ATV and then go onto the treadmill. Jeff's daughter Ellen was our guide for this portion of the program.
After learning how the dogs train, play and live we moved inside to learn more about the many races and what is done along the trail. We learned of the many improvements Jeff has made to his sled and the industry in general. We were treated to a Q&A with Jeff at the end of this portion of the presentation. We purchased his book, some shirts and other souvenirs before we got to have one more look at the tired out puppies in their pen.
We left with our hearts full and a commitment to come back someday in the winter so we can finally see the Iditarod and the northern lights in person.
Thanks for an informative experience and sharing your love of these amazing athletic animals...

Read moreHad a great time here. Kids absolutely loved it. Still on an insanely expensive Alaskan cruise and mainland visit that includes Denali, fishing, boat tours, the whole shebang. I'm pretty sure when I ask them what they liked best, they will say the puppies. We got there only like 3-5 mins before it started, even though they told us to get there like 15 mins early. I also booked for the week earlier (pretty boneheaded, but man was this Alaska trip complex, so one mistake amongst like 200 details pretty solid), but they let us in since they had room, which was really great from them. The first 25 mins is outdoors talking about the dogs with a couple of demos. Next 25 inside talking about dog sledding. Last 25 talking about Iditarod and the owner's accomplishments and some Q&A. As we were leaving, they asked if we wanted some more puppy time (not holding, though). Felt like that was not normal, really cool, and probably because I have six kids. Dropped down over $500 for 8 of us. Kind of steep for holding puppies for a few mins and petting them a bit later with some lecturing and demo in between. And yet, I felt it was totally worth it....
