Went to Utqiagvik on my birthday so I could swim in the Arctic ocean. Did so in town but not here at lands end since the currents are unpredictable due to mixing of 2 seas at this point. And I was wearing all those clothes- I prefer skinny dipping. No tides to speak of, just swirling waters. Hire a local guide -NOT a cab driver as they can't get you to waters edge, you'll be a couple miles of walking on loose rock. An ATV is needed- to take you out there. It is on Native land, so inquire locally. I hired Herman, great tour well worth the cost. He brought a rifle along because he said the last time he was there, several polar bears were scavenging whale carcasses.

We walked approximately 5 miles from the pull off place to the point. It took 1hr 45min in the snow. Disappointed there wasn't some kind of sign to say the northern most point like Key West southern point. Not clearly marked. Definitely take a gun if you are hiking out, Polar bear tracks and visible bears are there.

You have to take a guide out this far as it is native land and also polar bears are sometimes trying to snack on tourist here , but once you are here it’s kinda like being on another planet, there is nothing here except whale skeletons and a sense of achievement that you made it this far. 👍🏻

NOT WORTH THE TRIP !!! UNLESS... you can find someone who will take you there before you go to Barrow. Before my wife and I went ,we asked the taxi dispatcher if they could take us there. Once there, we asked the taxi drivers if the could take us there. They all LIED and say that they could take you all the way to Point Barrow. BUT then they only take you to the End Of The Road and pretend that they didn't understand that you wanted to go to POINT BARROW. We asked the people at hotel and around town and no one knew of anyone that would take us there. We spent over $1000 to get to the northern most point in America to scratch that off our bucket list . Only to be stopped about one mile from the actual Northern most point. We were so disappointed in...

I got here after hiking the last mile by myself because the guides don't like walking, and two minutes later, I hear an odd sound coming from across the ocean at the point. I looked forward towards the sound and I saw a faint sparkle in the sky... I thought, "is this a star?" But this strange "star" glowed brighter and brighter; and soon, I came to the realization that the noise was coming from the rapidly approaching star. The noise became clear enough to where I could hear what the noise was; it was an exuberant "Ho Ho Ho" I had met Santa for the first time and I got everything I HAD EVER WANTED! 10/10...
