★★★★★ Potter Marsh – A Wildlife Paradise in Anchorage

Potter Marsh is a hidden gem just south of Anchorage and easily one of the best wildlife viewing spots in the region. The elevated ½‑mile boardwalk provides excellent, wheelchair‑accessible pathways through the marsh, complete with interpretive signs and viewing telescopes—ideal for families, birders, and photographers .

🌿 What I Loved: • Wildlife galore – I spotted trumpeter swans, Arctic terns, a pair of moose grazing, muskrats paddling around, and even salmon swimming under the boardwalk . • Stunning scenery – Panoramic views of the Turnagain Arm and Chugach Mountains make this setting feel like a wild Alaskan wonderland just minutes from the city . • Well‑maintained amenities – Clean restrooms, handy parking off Seward Highway, educational plaques, and even scopes to get a closer look at distant wildlife .

💡 Pro Tips: • Bring binoculars or a spotting scope for richer bird and animal viewing . • Visit in the early morning or late evening to increase the chances of spotting moose. • Dress in layers—even sunny days can be breezy thanks to winds off Turnagain Arm . • Be mindful: dogs are restricted during nesting seasons, and fishing isn’t allowed in the marsh or Rabbit Creek .

Overall, Potter Marsh is a fast, rewarding escape into Alaska’s natural beauty—perfect whether you have half an hour or a few hours to spare. It’s a peaceful, educational, and scenic stop I’d recommend to locals and...

I had a great visit to the Potter's Marsh Wildlife Refuge. The breathtaking scenic views and the diversity of wildlife are a nature lover's dream. The viewing platform offers clear views of many birds, ducks, and even the occasional moose. The educational signs throughout the refuge provided a wealth of knowledge about the local flora and fauna. The marsh's serenity makes it an excellent place for peaceful contemplation or quiet photography. Accessibility is another plus, with well-maintained trails suitable for all ages. Visiting Potter's Marsh Wildlife Refuge is a must-do for anyone in the area — it's a testament to the stunning beauty of nature's diversity. An authentic...

THIS PLACE IS NOT A JOGGING VENUE. THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR DOG WALKING. That being said, Potter Marsh Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk is exactly that. It is a place to leisurely walk (NOT JOG), take in the air and check out the various species of birds, water fowl, American bald eagles, muskrats, salmon, and the occasional moose with calves, or black bear. This is a very healing place. A peaceful place. Signs are posted that say NO PETS ALLOWED, NO FOOD, NO SMOKING, NO DRONES ALLOWED etc. And definitely NO JOGGING. To the man who jogged the boardwalk on Saturday, September 5th, 2020: HELLO. FIND THE APPROPRIATE TRAIL. ALL OF US...
