My family and I went on a 7 day cruise to Alaska. We stopped in Skagway as one of our stops and took a ferry boat to Haines for our off road excursion. We met both tour guides - an older gentleman with a beard and a younger lady with glasses. They seemed very nice and we traveled to where we got on our 4x4s. Our first accent up the mountain was great. We stopped at a nice cabin for fresh warm delicious cookies. We then started the next trip up the mountain. We slowed down many times to take pictures (we were told before our departure that after the first accent we could stop for as many pictures as we wanted). When we got to the top the older gentleman proceeded to start screaming at me about how I was "hot rodding" and creating a gap so we could speed up. He stated that was the first and last warning and if I was going to argue with him he could take me right down. I told him that was not correct and that we were slowing down to take pictures. I also asked who said we were "hot rodding " as he was in the front. He then said the guide in the back is the one that told him. I then went over and asked her and she said that she saw me "hot rodding". We didn't go over a few miles per hour. She said we were being reckless with our kids in the car and both guides were accusing our entire group. They assumed that I was being reckless and "hot rodding" as they saw a gap which was due to us taking pictures. I would never put my family and small children in danger. They were extremely rude about it and ruined the tour for our group. If the guides had been different the tour would have been awesome. We stopped for a home made halibut lunch on the way down...
Read moreOf all the things we did during our cruise to Alaska, this was my favorite. Since our cruise ship didn't call Haines until the evening hours (5 pm to 10 pm), they added this extra evening excursion, and I'm so glad they did. It was rugged enough to feel like we were getting off the beaten path, but also tame enough to include my septuagenarian mother and her bff. Sabrina was our bus driver, as well as our guide up the mountain, and she was both knowledgeable and hilarious. She was assisted by Rita, who went above and beyond with her friendliness and service. The trails and views were amazing, and we felt like we were living a once in a lifetime experience. We stopped at the lodge for a delicious dinner of halibut and smoked chicken, prepared by Jake. We had eaten a lot of halibut during our trip, but this was hands down, the best we ate anywhere. I'd love to know what was in his batter! We didn't have much time to explore anything else in Haines, but we feel we got the best of it by going up the Takshanuk Mountain Trail. Highly recommend. Would do it again in...
Read moreWe just took this ATV tour. It was very nice weather. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. ATVs are great. It is about 40 min drive to the top and another 40 min back. We made multiple stops. Some to make beautiful pictures of landscape, some to get shot drink and freshly made cookies or lunch on the way back.
This was our third tour in Alaska, and by far the best. Everyone was happy and enjoyed it very much.
I am not sure if we would have such experience if it would rain. But we were lucky and the weather was great.
We didn't book it from cruise, we booked directly with the provider. It was a lot better priced and more money would go to the actual people who work...
