This is an absolutely amazing place to visit in the winter by Snow Machine (Snow Mobile). 38 miles from Delta Junction on the ALCAN you can put in on the Tanana River (Frozen) and make your way to some of the best fishing lakes in Alaska. Some of the best Pike and Burbot fishing in North America. Best time for fishing in the winter is Dec-Mar. This ensures a good solid ice over the river to the lakes. I would share my trail but don't want to give away the best spot to fish (no fisher man would).

An excellent description of our vast forest resources in Interior Alaska. The Annual Allowable Cut discussion and timber harvest data indicate timber harvesting for economic development, forest products, forest health (in regard to acres burned, blown down, killed by insects and general decadence), wildlife habitat enhancement and resource access could certainly allow an expanded utilization of forest products that would enhance all resource attributes.

Too bad we are so far from markets that would allow a 5 or 10 fold expansion of multiple use management that includes additional timber harvest. No area within the Tanana Valley State Forest or on any other state owned forested lands in the mainland state are even close to a 10% harvest of the scientifically determined Annual Allowable Cut.

Maybe in the future public and agency attitudes and economic conditions will foster a social and economic climate where multiple use forest stewardship is understood...

Definitely out with the nature. Very beautiful, plenty of pull offs, turn arounds, if I was smart I would of brought binoculars. It's a good get away from the huste, and bustle. Little bit dirty out there, but still very beautiful. One lady told me it's really georguos...
