The Pogue Creek Canyon area has only recently had paths added to ease access. From the parking lot, the path is a relatively easy loop that takes to you an overlook of the east end of the canyon. It is nice, but the real treat is to take the side path that goes down into the canyon. It is strenuous because there are several serious elevation changes along this path (about 1,500 feet, several times). The path itself is not difficult. You'll go along cliff faces, through a "fat man's squeeze", crossing streams several times. Be sure to take some of the side branches, such as the path to see the Circle Bar Arch. The Kildare arch at the far end is spectacular. The overlook at the end of the path is gorgeous. The trail only goes in about four miles so far and it is worth the time to see it. It took our group about 4 hours to walk in and then walk out by the gravel road along...

Besides the rugged scenery and rock houses tucked beneath deciduous forest, you will find unique plants such as these. A real beauty of a state natural area! May we endeavor to keep the hands of politicians, developers, and all others who look at land and see nothing but dollar signs off our state parks and natural areas in Tennessee. Yes there is enough concrete...

This area is easy to spot, as it has a large solar charging station visible from the road. There are two areas: 1. the astronomy field for at-night no lights star-gazing, and 2. a nature hike loop with an optional extention to see the overlook. The terrain is average and the overlook is nice. This was an easy hike/hidden gem with no other people...
