It was a pleasant surprise to discover this place. We lived here for over six years now and have been looking for a great pizza place all this time. We have not been very happy so far. Trinity from Blissfully Serene Spa suggested we try Jules J Berta Vineyards. We went there one Saturday afternoon and liked its rustic and charming appearance. We ordered a 12ā pizza without marinara sauce with additional pesto. We sat in the covered palace as it was too windy and cold to sit outside. The pizza arrived pretty quickly. The pizza looked really good. It was a thin crust pizza with raised edges. The edge was a little too charred, but we liked the look and the crunch of it. The crust was not bad, but not the greatest as it lacked the subtle yeasty smell. The most wonderful part of the pizza was that it was not drowning with gooey cheese as it was in Materās and Mellow Mushroom. The toppings were equally distributed and plentiful without being a ādeepā dish pizza; a significant improvement over lookout mountain pizza. Really nice! The first bite was wonderful. A near perfect blend of saltiness giving out to a mild but significant taste of feta on the sides of the mouth. Somehow the Basil did not come through as it can be expected for an out of season veggie pizza. The big disappointment was the pesto. We could not find it anywhere. Spices were lacking a bit. I think I would have liked a more pronounced taste of oregano (then again, we did not get the marinara sauce) and more herbs on it to spice things up. We believe things will jazz up significantly in summer when the fresh veggies arrive. Oh, BTW, we thought the 12ā pizza was a little too much for two people. I think we would have been plenty happy with an 8'' pizza. Even though things were a bit pricey (one 12ā pizza and one bottle of water came out to be $32) there was plenty of food for two people. So far the best pizza we had here. We will definitely be back and we are also inviting friends from huntsville to come and join us for lunch. We are requesting a bit of addition to the covered sitting place. When you guys get a chance, closing the place with glass (part of it screened and openable) will make the place sizzle in winter. We are planning to explore pizzarias within 4-5 hours drive from here to see if anyone can beat Jules winery. Thank you for being here. We will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had our first dining experience and was less than pleased! Staff was not very friendly! We arrived at 3:30 with a party of 8 (4 children) told we could eat without a reservation as long as we promised to leave by 6:30! No big deal we didnāt plan to spend 3 hours with children. No one let us know where you were to order (we came for the pizza).
Needless to say this wonāt be on our list we when come to visit Guntersville! I have had much better pizza and service from chains! We should have spent my $180 somewhere else! Wine slushes were mediocre and the service counter to order was less than patient with people who have never frequented the venue!
Also in case you do decide to visit I would plan to make reservations even though thatās not even recommended anywhere on the website or Facebook page! š
Hopefully this review helps others from out of town who are trying to decide about where to eat!
UPDATED:
In response to the owners reply, I think you maybe confused to our party... we didnāt have 12 people on our party! The reservation details should be updated on your webpage and Facebook page if that is important to you! However to be MAXED out there were numerous empty tables! You assume everyone that walks up is going to spend 3-4 hours maybe before you assume you should ask to see how long they plan to stay and if you can accommodate. It would seem like poor business to hold 6+ tables for 3 hours waiting on a reservation. We were also not informed of how to order until someone come to the table after having sat there for 5 minutes to let us know where you order. At that point if you listen to your audio and video you would see, I assume the owner come by our table and say hey you order over there. (Which was still very vague)You need to just remember that people come from other places outside of Albertville, Alabama to try your venue. We unfortunately did not have a pleasant experience and the pizza is best referenced by as a Papa Johnās pizza cooked in a brick oven! (Overpriced) Which leads me to the TWO tabs for table 28- one debit card and one cash! Iāll be happy to message you a photo once cleared from the bank. No worries we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friend wrote a review. I'll attach it below. The response she got back was that the 20% tip is added to a bill to pay for their employees to work the fields basically....Im a good tipper but I dont like being forced to tip. Especially when I stand in a long line (during a pandemic) and get MY OWN drinks... With that being said I don't think its a customers responsibility to pay for your employess to work the fields for the wine that you sell to your customers and at pretty high price. You should be paying them for that. Not adding it to customers checks. I wont go back because if this. Too bad because the pizza is amazing and the wine isn't bad..
Original message that was sent Slight issues here. The pizza and wine slushies are fantastic for sure and the staff are polite, but... They really need to fix the way they do their ordering and payment process. You have to stand in line for a while to go inside a small building (not very social distancing friendly if that is important to you) to place your order, to pay, and to place an order for anything additional after the initial order (drinks etc). We waited in line twice just to order and then pay. Then upon payment they tell you the tip is already added and come to find out that tip is 20%. Now I'm all for generous tipping, but with the cost of the drinks and pizza there, for only two of us, it was a $10 tip and the only thing they did was bring the actual pizza to the table, nothing else... We even got our own plates and napkins. As much as I love the atmosphere and food these issues will probably keep us from going back. I really hope they fix these things. The tip should always be up to the customer in groups smaller than 8 and no one should have to stand in line multiple times to order food and to pay especially...
