I came in last week to check out the museum part of things. Admission was fairly cheap and we had the entire place to ourselves. Photography of most art pieces is discouraged (as I soon found out). So allow yourself enough time to admire the artwork. As it turns out, we came in during the last week of the Cholo/a special exhibit. It was considerably large and certainly captured the essence of that particular culture. I look forward to seeing what will (hopefully)soon take its place. The rest of the NHCC was mostly inactive during our visit. However, if an admirer of symmetric architecture, the building can certainly serve as an exhibit all on its own. Definitely a place worth stopping by. Especially if you seek to learn more about a culture and identity that is so heavily ingrained in the DNA helix...

Albuquerque's National Hispanic Cultural Center is a feast for the senses. Even before I stepped inside, the building itself stuns. The architecture takes inspiration from mesoamerican temples, with its geometric shapes and imposing presence. This unique design immediately sets the tone for a journey into Hispanic heritage.

But the true eye-catcher is the magnificent mural that graces the building's interior. The vibrant colors and detailed figures hint at the rich artistic traditions you'll find within. It's a powerful introduction to the diverse cultures celebrated at the NHCC. Don't miss taking a moment to admire this incredible artwork before you head in to explore the exhibits and...

NHCC- What a hidden jewel , this facility has the serenity we all, at times crave, just pleasantly cool & quiet , the fountain trickling in the background as I sit in the courtyard On the Westside in the Pete Dominci building , there's a Gran Baille with over 300 person's, w/ a huge band. Next to me is the La Fonda Resturant , a lovely place for dinner or lunch, art is everywhere you look, from the very buildings themselves to museum behind me across the bricked plaza. The torron is amazing as well as the story it tells, with the al fresco painted mural. So rich with NM culture, this is a must do. Knowledgeable & friendly staff , I love coming here.

This center is that best one run by the state of NM. They have over 700 events a year since the new director ( R. Avitia) took over about three years ago. We just went to see the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. The photos are from that show and the building and the Disney Performing Theater. We also attend many of the Thursday night movies and a few of the plays and operas (including Spanish zarzuelas). On top of that, they rent the place for weddings and other events. My daughter's wedding reception was there and it was perfect. I hope that NM state continues to fund the place.
