Park isn't what it used to be at all. Used to go fishing down here, take out canoes here and hike here all the time but that was years ago. Now they took out the parking by the river so you have to park by the ranger station. Which is no big deal, but the past 3 times I've pulled down the ramp to get my boat out of the river the ranger on duty (which you'll never see unless you have the audacity to drive a car down the ramp) has came down and told us to move the truck. As I am carrying my boat up the mudslide of a mess that used to be the ramp! Guess we're supposed to carry boats 100 yards uphill and across the street?Anyways, park has really went downhill. Land is all grown up and looks awful. Picnic tables are gone and what's left of the trails is in terrible shape. You can tell these new guys take no pride in this once awesome area. Really sad. Get new rangers that take pride in this area and don't enjoy...
Read moreBe sure you are out of the park by 4:30! They are writing tickets, putting boots on wheels and towing vehicles. What's the point of our tax dollars paying for these parks if we can't use them? Best part of the day for walking is past their closing time. Yes it is a historical land mark to learn and educate people about the history of the area, but it's also state owned park that is used and has been used for a very long time for canoers and kayaking. It hasn't been a problem for many years parking and taking out at the park after 4:30 why is it a problem now? Just imagine floating the river with your family and things don't go perfectly and you don't make it back before 4:30 to find out they towed your vehicle. You and your kids are wet, hungry and tired from a fun day on the river and now your stranded. Good thinking from a...
Read moreWe were passing through the area and stopped in to visit a old covered bridge that's listed on the registry, a hobby of mine. Ends up the bridge we were looking for was destroyed by a flood in 1998! We asked the Ranger on duty where it was located. He told us the story of how it was destroyed by the flood in the 50's, then rebuilt... just to be destroyed again in 1998. At that point, the state decided not to rebuild again. He said they had made several attempts to get it removed from the list or attach a note that it wasn't there... but no success. We spoke to 2 different attendants while there and both were very friendly and knowledgeable. We were not able to see the old covered bridge, but there is a neat old iron bridge on site. Nice...
