Beautiful park. Real hiking here, not a stroll to the beach. 2 miles to the beach and 2 miles return back by the most direct route, but if you plan, pack a lunch and your water, it's fantastic once you get there. It's not flat, sand dunes, hills, up and down, and exposed roots... preplanning will make it a great day out. You will need a flashlight if returning after dark even better, wear a headlamp.

36 minute walk from the small parking lot to vast beach! Need to be in good physical condition to manage the trail's few steep areas, navigating the tree roots that serve as "steps" on very narrow sections of the path. Saw kids about 7 years old, folks in their seventies as well as a couple of dogs...so most people should be capable to make it there and back with confidence.

Easy trail. Well marked by Blue Diamonds. By taking the main trail and shooting for the Superior Trail (Yellow) it is 1.5 miles out to the beach. On the Superior Trail, part of it has eroded away as it edges along the creek. Also, only 6 miles from Calumet Township and going out mid week should place you as the only person out there.

Mixed feelings about this. I remember when I was free to ride my old Yamaha Enduro down to the beach through this land. Cerebrally, I know this is better for everyone, to be able to share this beautiful place, without the beer cans, and toilet paper everywhere. Still, I have nostalgia, for how truly wild it used to feel. My advice, get you butt down onto the trail, take your water shoes and bug dope, and go look at something the rest of the world is only seeing in...

Great place to visit if you are interested in a quiet and secluded beach day! While it does take about 40 minutes to hike to the beach, it is well worth the gorgeous Lake Superior views! The beach has some sand near the top but close to the water it is larger pebbles. Not sure what other days are like, but the waves were huge today and it seemed like there was an undertoe so we avoided going more than knee deep in the water....
