Waze took us on a different route to Connecticut this trip. Skipping GWB it took us on a scenic bypass. We could see the Hudson River, so decided to jump off one of the outlooks and get a better View. Alpine had pretty decent parking. Apparently there is a whole trail system that runs through the area so you can get off and walk, Jog and taken the sites of the hudson. It's up on the clips so it has a really good view of the Hudson River itself. Across the way I believe you can see Yonkers. It was very scenic, a few benches and open areas where we saw some people sitting having a picnic. They were also some coin binoculars that you could pay for and take a closer look across the river. Pretty well kept. Even had some information posted about the history of the area. If you need a little break from Drive-In to stretch your legs this is a great spot catching some cool scenery and...
Read moreI've know about this lookout but didn't visit until today. Its located on the palisades parkway in alpine NJ. Its like a hidden gem that offers great views of westchester county specifically the city of yonkers. You csn still NYC and if you look closely you can see the throggs neck and Whitestone bridges.its absolutely free to visit with no parking fees. You'll see a sign that says 20min however you can ignore because there's no enforcement. You csn come relax here have a picnic read a book or just take in the great views. This is only accessible from the north bound side of the parkway. Once you exit from the GWB bridge coming from NYC its just over 5 miles so its a short drive. Definitely a nice spot for some truly peace and quiet. Sadly there aren't any restrooms or portapotties available not a playground. Dogs are...
Read moreThis lookout on the Palisades Parkway is on the edge of the Hudson River. It might be smaller than the ones north of the George Washington Bridge, but it seems to be the only one with a clear shot of the Yonkers sunrise. I had to drive back and forth on the Parkway to find a good spot. The gate for State Line Lookout wasn’t open yet (it opens at 6 am, which is way after sunrise). Unless you want to park far away and hike in (there was one crazy guy with a giant lens walking by the highway in the pre-dawn darkness !), that wasn’t an option. Rockefeller Lookout wasn’t great for sunrise either - the cliffs are too flat and the trees block the view. Those two stops slowed me down, the I missed the sunrise I was hoping for. But I’ll definitely be back for...
