Fort Pena Colorado Park — Attraction in Alpine

Great place to take the kids fishing it's a small park has picnic tables and even looks like they have a large charcoal smoker there and when I say large it's big enough to fit one or two whole pigs on it! Does have public restrooms and electricity also.

We stayed here for a Cub scouts camping trip and had a great time the kids loved the fishing and there was enough shade that even with the temperature being 95 degrees it was not uncomfortable at all. Lots of wildlife out there the deer walk up to the camp and there are also a lot of brids of pray...

We had no idea such a nice park was tucked away in the Chihuahuan desert ranchlands south of Marathon! It has a manmade lake, lots of big shade trees and picnic tables, a huge smoker, bathrooms, a large flat concrete area for dancing and for kids to play, and parking area for I would guess at least a couple of hundred cars, maybe more. Birding was really good; we got over a dozen species there in just the hour or so we were there. Fort PC is well worth the short drive south...

The history, geology, and even present environment is sincerely all worthwhile. Some folks fished, others bbq-ed, the firefighters had a fundraiser w/items auctioned then the evening ended w/band serenading the cook off participants, service workers, and supporters and dancers took to the floor!!!
