Reaching Red Pine Lake is the incredible reward after a challenging but beautiful hike, and it truly lives up to the hype! This stunning alpine lake is nestled dramatically in a high cirque, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.

The lake itself is a fantastic spot to hang out and recharge. Many people enjoy having lunch by its shores, taking in the serene mountain atmosphere. On my visit, I saw several people camping around the lake, which looked like an amazing experience. Popular spots like this can get busy, so aim to set up camp away from the main trail and water sources.

For the more ambitious, Red Pine Lake also serves as a key starting point for the hike up the Pfeifferhorn. The trail to the summit departs from the lake, offering an even more challenging ascent for...

Alpine Heaven Just Outside Salt Lake!

Red Pine Lake is hands-down one of the most stunning hikes in the Wasatch! The trail starts mellow but gradually gets your heart pumping (totally worth it for the payoff at the top). The lake itself is crystal clear and framed by towering granite peaks, including the iconic Pfeifferhorn (aka the Wasatch’s Little Matterhorn).

The mix of dense pine and aspen forest, rushing creek crossings, and epic mountain views makes this a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike. We saw a marmot, heard woodpeckers, and got a solid leg workout.

Tip: Start early to beat the heat and the crowds, and bring plenty of water.

Can’t wait to come back in the fall when the...

Sometimes you want something challenging, but not dangerous. That is what this is. It is a nice challenging hike, for it has good attitude climb, it has a length that is longer but not too long, it has a path that has some rocks to keep it interesting, but not too many rocks that are going to make it dangerous coming down. It is not the top prettiest lake in Utah, but still very nice and beautiful....
