It was very quiet here today. I found this place because there is a geocache nearby that I wanted to find (I did find it). Drawn in by the signs, I took a walk across the bridge. The staff were setting up for the 100th anniversary celebrations that will take place tomorrow. The two I spoke with were friendly. I walked around to see where this "pool" was. I had an idea that I had already seen it when I was looking at the pond. Sure enough, I noticed the rope that defined a section of the pond as a swimming area. No one was here today to swim so I'm not sure, but it looks like you can get into the water via some step-like rocks that are at the edge of the water, or you could jump off the end of the dock. I saw a horseshoe pit and they have corn hole too. The building interior has an open floor plan in the center, with room to set up tables or perhaps have meetings, dancing, or dinners. I didn't notice a restroom indoors, but two porta-potties are set up at the parking area. The playground looked nice. Oh, and two boats shaped like swans are available for paddling around on the pond.
The views of the river as one crosses the little bridge are pretty. The parking lot didn't seem big enough, but perhaps I just didn't notice more parking further down from where I parked (right at...

Alstead is so lucky to have Vilas Pool and folks like Glenn and Cathy Moore, and others who have made contributions. Looking forward to visiting again next year from Florida. Kudos for a...
Read moreI went to investigate this well-known swimming hole. Seems the water is low. It looks like a nice place for a function with nice swan boats and paddle boats to use while there. I would go back earlier than the middle of July or with higher water levels. Lovely...
