Burning man is a city in the desert. Like with any city, it is up to the city dweller to make the most of their experience.

The black rock desert offers a stunning environment and a blank canvas in which dreams can combine with reality. The sunsets and sunrises are unrivaled with vivid colors and picturesque peaks.

When coming to the black rock desert, make sure to be aware of proper leave no trace principles. Please pack out everything you bring with you, and make sure to find and actively remove trash that is not your own. Leave the environment better than you found it.

The dust storms and whiteouts are a unique experience in and of themselves. There are few other places on Earth where you can experience such an intense suspension of particles in the air that can distort your very reality. The black rock desert, more than many other places, finely juxtaposes the desolate with the beautiful and a barren landscape with an oasis.

If you are in the area during a time other than burning man, the hot springs are worth investigating.

May the desert help awaken your sense of awe with nature, and better ground you with the magnitude and splendor of such a...

As I wash the dust away and reflect back into the experience wanting to explain it all and or describe it, I find myself not being able to. So in short Burning man can't be explained..... no matter how hard you try. It is an experience. It is anything and everything, there is no boundaries and anything goes. It is a safe space for all walks of life. It is a community. It is visual and the art is amazing. It is not an easy experience by design. It is Hot, it is cold, Dusty and at times it feels like you had it. The city comes to life right around sundown. The night life is an explosion of Fire, Lights and shows and Music and gatherings. There are bars and drinks everywhere you go. The city of 70,000+ is literally a live 24/7. It is alive even when it sleeps. It is definitely a Bucket list item. At the end it is not for everybody, but if you can hack it it will stay with...

Very cool place that comes alive at night with diverse wildlife. Id not sleep on the ground in a sleeping bag again as you may get visitors, like rattlesnakes who want to slither into your bag with you. Beautiful at night. I was actually 4 wheeling outside of the area and we stumbled upon the festival by chance. Watched from a distance and kept on trucking. Way too many folks and cops. 420 was not exactly legit in the late 1980s into 1990s. All Deserts off a great deal of natural beauty if you bother to inspect the world around you.

Its fun at night with both a red led flashlight, UV flashlights and white or yellow led lights, which show more definition in the darkness. Patterns you normally can't see at night illuminate under a strong UV led light. Just be respectful and don't shine bright lights on anything too long at night as it can interfere with...

Dust storm is not fun. Learn to enjoy the dance in the dust. With time this dust collects in your nostrils and you have gray pieces of soft clay coming out of your nose. Get comfortable with dust being everywhere in your surrounding. Chill down. It’s just tiny pieces of sand - stone - Earth. It’s alkaline and dries your skin out after few days. It’s day 4 after I’m putting oils into my fingers and my skin is still healing. But if you go just for few days, take dust masks and Googles you’ll be fine. It has its own magic as the ancentrial tribes lived here as people say. Burning man festival program makes the harsh environment survive better for sure. Enjoy the desert if you forgot appreciating the comfortable living in the city. You’ll feel the Magic is at sunrise and the sunset. Ah! There is no reception at some parts - make sure you take the maps.

I attended The Everywhen festival at Fourth of Juplaya in the Black Rock Desert. The Everywhen Project festival is sometimes compared to the Burning Man festival, but never being to Burning Man I can't really speak to that. What I can say is that it's an amazing group of people putting on an art festival. Physical art, musical art, and performance art. It's all there. It's not as expensive as Burning Man, but requires complete self-reliance, as does Burning Man (except for the porta-potties both of them provide). It's about a week long, but you can arrive when you want, and leave when you want. You can also come and go at any time without penalty or hassle. It's completely open. This year they put on a very impressive fireworks show, although I can't say if that's in the plans for future events.
