Update 10/8/21 Went hiking today and such a beautiful place. They have widened the paths and did some trail maintenance. Saw some woodpeckers and heard tons of cicadas. Beautiful area with huge oaks and hanging spanish moss. Definitely worth a drive there and enjoy nature.
Beautiful park. Love that it's close to home and county has bought this 20/20 land to preserve the beauty. Did a hike with my mom on such a beautiful February day. Saw some warblers, woodpeckers, an armadillo and a small alligator. Trails are well marked, plenty of benches and shelters. Make sure to bring water and wear sunscreen. Hickey Creek is the kind of place that makes you slow down and appreciate the little things—moss-draped oaks, gopher tortoises wandering near the trail, and the calming ripple of the creek itself. The loop trail is well-marked and shaded in spots, with beautiful boardwalks and interpretive signs that give you a sense of the ecosystem. I even caught a glimpse of a barred owl perched silently in the trees. It’s not flashy, but it’s incredibly peaceful, and perfect for a solo nature walk or an afternoon with the family. A true local treasure if you’re into wildlife, photography, or just some much-needed quiet time...
