Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake — Attraction in Ames

This is a great little spot for an easy kayaking trip. There is a nice big parking lot and easy access to the docks. Getting on the water was very easy.

We kayaked around the entire lake in about 90 minutes and we took our time. So, it’s not a big body of water. It’s surprisingly peaceful given the location next to a busy road and adjacent suburbs.

We shared a nice lunch on one of the many swings/benches...

It's a great place to walk, fish, kayak, watch a sun rise or sunset, and much more! It's funny remember when it was just an old rock quarry with a crane and other equipment! It's amazing the transformation it's went through over the year's! Tho one day it would be cool if they made a beach area a use I feel that's all...

Great for photography at all times of the day. Unfortunately, although I don't remember seeing any signs, you'll get asked to leave at night. This is unfortunate because this would be a good place for night photography even as close as it is...
