In the 1990s, we went out to Anacapa Island in a sailboat and once in a 14 ft inflatable out of Oxnard Harbor. It was pretty brutal in the inflatable because we were losing are on the way back. And we had to rotate one person had to Pump Air as the other one was operating the motor. And I was getting a little hypothermic. We went scuba diving both times and caught a lot of fish spearfishing. My dive instructor said yeah it's no problem we could Spearfish here, until the game warden showed up and took all our fish away and gave my dive instructor and his buddies a ticket because they knew that that was a reserve no fishing allowed in less than 30 ft of water. They just didn't tell me about it. They could have taken our equipment and our boat away. And they left me with a warning no ticket. But we caught many Calico bass sheep heads. we brought up some sea urchins and abalone. The game warden was happy he took all that home on to the island where he lives like a hermit. Read moreI went on a day trip, and it was a photographer's dream. The only drawback is that you can not get too close to the lighthouse because it is a working lighthouse, and the fog horn would do some damage to your ears (there are warning signs). Be prepared to spend all day and be sure to bring your own lunch (the boat to the island only takes cash and has a limited selection). Bring plenty of water to hydrate!!
