California Poppies Super Bloom alert! (2/20/23) Very well maintained wide trail, a little steep in the beginning but pretty flat to see the bloom. Lots of neighborhood street parking (please be kind to the neighbors). Beautiful massive vibrant orange California Poppies, with many other native wild flowers. There is sometimes a nice knowledgeable ranger in the area to answer questions and remind us to stay in the main path so we don’t destroy the wildflowers.

Had an opportunity to spend an afternoon on this lovely trail. It is rated difficult, which I suppose is due to the many ups and downs that makes it such a delightful hike. On a Fri. in May, I only encountered three other sets of hikers and a couple of single cyclists. The trail is well-maintained and full of bird life and flowering bushes. Free on-street parking, which might be limited on weekend. There are no facilities, so plan ahead.

Did a 2.5 mile hike, it was a great work out, really awesome landscapes with all the lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers. I took the Old Weir Canyon trail and it's a bit of an uphill climb.

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to." - Bilbo Baggins

I found that, while there were no Nazgul, nor men of Gondor among them, there were a great many interesting characters to meet along the trails. Of course, this holds true for wherever humans congregate. While there was less congregating and more saying "hello" as you passed, it was evident that the people you greet along this trail are happy to be hiking.

I enjoy beginning my happy hikes at the end. That is, at the sign which says "End" right there where Weir stops. It is kind of circuitous from the actual trails, but I find that many times the line between private and public property blur.

I enjoy ending my happy hikes at The Rock. In don't call it Robber's Roost. Read my review of that place to find out why.

Hiking and typing don't work together. I end this review...

The trails here are very poorly signed and there is no map. You can hike a 3+ mile loop by taking the left branch at the trail head. The whole trail is signed as Wier Canyon Trail at that point. Bear right at the next major fork. This "bear right" keeps you on what appears to be the main trail but the left fork is only slightly "less main" ... you'll be coming back this way. It's a bit over 1.5 miles to the Wier Canyon / Deerweed signpost. Turn on to Deerweed and you'll come back to that original fork where you went to the right. It's a hilly climb and the trail is rough. We wore running shoes but next time will wear...
