This is one of my favorite places to run! The entire trail is paved with blacktop and is wide enough to support roughly six people side by side. There are no road markers for lanes, but most people stick to walking on the correct side. In my experience, there are rarely cyclists and most people are either walking or running. The trail is about 1.7 miles with approximately a 150 ft elevation gain and creates a loop around the entire reservoir. There are several benches along the trail to rest as well. The trail is dog friendly with many doggy-waste stations. As of early 2020, there is a single porta potty that is maintained relatively well. Unfortunately, there are no drinking fountains. I do not recommend visiting the trail after sunset as there is very little city lighting, if any.

This is a quiet, peaceful place to walk, jog, stroll or just to sit and enjoy the views. The curving, flat 1.2 mile loop around the east Anaheim reservoir is perfect for families with kids, for people wanting to exercise their pooches, or for the individual who needs some time alone. People here are very polite and respectful of one another. There is no trash left on the path and no loud noise. Pet owners pick up after themselves and visitors nod politely to one another in passing. Parking can be found near the streets that border the reservoir. As the sun sets, lights from the homes that surround the loop cast a glow - creating a safe, comfortable place to walk, even as darkness falls. Its a beautiful, tranquil place to visit.

A wonderful place to checkout during the early morning or just about sunset. A nice oasis from the busy life. A mostly flat walking trial around the reservoir with several seating areas scattered throughout the trail to enjoy the wonderful natural landscape. A drinking fountain is available along the trail. I recommend exploring during the early morning and/or late afternoon as the trail is not very busy or empty with other walkers. Beautiful houses backup along some portions of the trail. Several information plaques are scattered throughout the trail regarding the importance of the reservoir and local ecosystem.

We live near Walnut Canyon Reservoir. I typically run or walk the periphery trail 3x/week. The trail is 1.7 miles. It's my favorite place to run because the trail is paved and fairly level except a few areas with mild grades. The area and scenery are beautiful with lots of waterfowl, e.g. ducks and geese, and the occasional hawk, eagle, or owl. You'll often see cottontail rabbits and occasionally come across coyotes at dawn and dusk so you'll want to either have a walking/running companion or carry mace. The neighbors and fellow trail walkers are friendly and welcoming. The views on clear days are beautiful; you can even see downtown Los Angeles in the distance. Be careful on windy days, e.g. Santa Ana winds, as you walk the trail over the earthen dam since the winds funnel over the dam and become stronger. Walnut Canyon Reservoir is definitely a plus in the...
