We live near Walnut Canyon Reservoir. I typically run or walk the periphery trail 3x/week. The trail is 1.7 miles. It's my favorite place to run because the trail is paved and fairly level except a few areas with mild grades. The area and scenery are beautiful with lots of waterfowl, e.g. ducks and geese, and the occasional hawk, eagle, or owl. You'll often see cottontail rabbits and occasionally come across coyotes at dawn and dusk so you'll want to either have a walking/running companion or carry mace. The neighbors and fellow trail walkers are friendly and welcoming. The views on clear days are beautiful; you can even see downtown Los Angeles in the distance. The entire trail is paved with blacktop and is wide enough to support roughly six people side by side. There are no road markers for lanes, but most people stick to walking on the correct side. In my experience, there are rarely cyclists and most people are either walking or running.
The trail is about 1.7 miles with approximately a 150 ft elevation gain and creates a loop around the entire reservoir. There are several benches along the trail to rest as well.
The trail is dog friendly with many doggy-waste stations.

People here are very polite and respectful of one another. There is no trash left on the path and no loud noise. Pet owners pick up after themselves and visitors nod politely to one another in passing.
Parking can be found near the streets that border the reservoir. As the sun sets, lights from the homes that surround the loop cast a glow - creating a safe, comfortable place to walk, even as darkness falls. Its a beautiful, tranquil...
