I had never been to Barleens before, although I had been aware of it for many years. Friends invited us to the Rock and Roll show. I like the idea of live music performance after dinner.
The long tables are set simply and efficiently with packets of Paul Newman's salad dressings. There are other condiments, too, but the stand-out is the huge, square slice of chocolate cake. The big screen TVs around the theater display a variety of messages pertaining to the performers, other shows, etc. The one message to pay attention to is the one that reminds you that you are allowed to eat dessert first. I chose to save it for the last taste in my mouth after dinner.
The dinner was roast beef with gravy, carrots, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a dinner roll. There is a vegetarian meal, substituting a small bowl of mixed beans in a sauce for your protein, and includes an extra roll. The servers for each table bring the meals, passing the full plates out quickly. There are a variety of drinks available during dinner and the show. My dinner was nice and hot. However, the carrots were shaped into balls. They were unique but difficult to spear with a fork. I was correct to save the chocolate cake for last. Oh man!
The show was a variety of rock and roll songs, starting in the 50s and going forward. The musicians are very talented on stage and off. (One female performer is the baker of the cakes each day.) There are some great songs, some great laughs, and a lot of clapping and singing by the audience.
There are several shows during the season covering different types of music for virtually any taste. I have my sights set on a couple other performances. This is a great place for locals as well as taking your guests from out of town. They have matinee and evening shows. The cost per adult is $52 for dinner and the show. There are children's prices and prices ($43 per adult) if you only wish to see the show. Yes, you could spend $52 at another restaurant, minus the live music, but you may not have as much fun.
Barleens has great freeway access and a cool view of the Superstitions as you drive out to their location. If you are a music lover of any age, give them a try. Make your reservations early to get your seats. There really isn't a bad seat...

Read moreI just attended the Barleens Dinner Show in Apache Junction with my mom, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, we felt the warmth and thoughtfulness that goes into every aspect of this show.
The Barleen family is incredibly talented, with 12 members each bringing their own unique gifts to the stage. Their creativity and energy make the performances unforgettable. I especially loved the host’s husband playing Barney Fife and other comedic characters throughout the evening—his humor had the whole audience laughing. What’s even more special is that during intermission, the performers run the concession stands. It’s such a delight to meet them up close while enjoying treats like ice cream, cookies, or root beer floats.
The dinner is just as impressive as the show. They serve an incredible roast beef dinner with ribs, and as a sweet touch, there’s a piece of chocolate cake waiting at your table when you arrive—because why not have dessert first?
What sets Barleens apart is how much they care about their patrons, most of whom are 55 and up. The thoughtfulness in their shows, the affordability, and the welcoming atmosphere make this a standout experience. Their charisma is so powerful that I feel like I’m part of the family. I’ve fallen in love with every member of the Barleen family, and since I attend every year and still enjoy it as much as ever, it truly feels like coming home.
If you’re looking for a memorable evening of great food and even better entertainment, I highly encourage you to check out Barleens Dinner Show. It’s an experience you won’t...
