Less Available Than It Seems:
(1) Private groups can kick you out of the only shaded picnic area in the park.
(2) The splash pad makes everyone pack up, leave, and then wait in line (in the sun) to enter again every 20 minutes.
About (1) — there is one structure with shade, and over 10 big picnic tables people can eat at. It’s wonderful, because it’s the only shade in the whole playground area. But we went and sat at an empty table today at 11am only to be kicked out by a private camp that had rented the entire shaded structure. So there was no place to sit in the shade in the entire park, in the middle of the day, during June in North Carolina. It’s frustrating to come to a park that specifically has a shaded lunch area and then find out, too late, that the whole area is monopolized. The park either needs to add more shade or change their rental policies.
About (2) — We went to the splash pad on a previous day and had a great time. I guess that was a less busy day though, because today the people working made everyone in the splash pad pick up their stuff and exit the gated splash area every 20 minutes. Which, if you have children who are of the age that enjoy splash pads, is just enough time for you to unpack, get everyone set up, and then gather the kids and pack up again. Heaven forbid one of your kids has to go to the bathroom during their turn. To make it more frustrating, once you’re kicked out, you have to stand in line in the direct sun to ensure that you’re able to make it back into the splash pad for the next rotation. And again, 20 minutes is not enough time to take the kids over to the playground, transition to another task, then transition back to waiting in line before the next rotation. I totally understand needing to rotate on days when the splash pad is at capacity, but this 20-min policy is not tenable. Timed virtual tickets or even just a longer rotation, with a shaded line, would be huge.
Please, please consider making some changes to these policies. For now, I’m uninterested in returning to the park...
Read moreNice park with lots of fun slides and swings I will admit but it’s getting 1 star due to a big problem with the restrooms.
So, there are “family” bathrooms that are individual that do not lock. Instead there’s a little sign like on an outhouse that will say “occupied” when you latch it from the inside however unlike an outhouse it doesn’t lock and anyone can still push their way in.
This is scary for these reasons: 1.) Not all children are occupied by an adult. Any child can walk in and easily get snatched up by someone else. 2.) People cannot read that little itty bitty display that says “occupied” on the door.
Today was my first day here and I had a horrible experience. I was in the restroom and someone tried to bust in! I yelled, “Read the sign!” Then when they shut it, it wouldn’t shut all the way because the door was now open and someone else tried to come in as well! I had to get up from doing my business to have to slam the door!
I do not understand the thoughts behind the design of these bathrooms but for big safety reasons, I’d suggest to put locks on the doors. Think about it parents and adults. Do you want someone busting into see your child’s private areas? I know today I was definitely not happy when I was busted in on so think about your children!
And for the record, I’m a child welfare Advocate so I’m passionate about these topics of safety.
Put locks on the doors!
Thank you!
UPDATE: And as I was reading other reviews I also thought about how I had the same feelings as others about the play structures. I even said something about them. I said “well this is a lawsuit waiting to happen!” There are so many things you must climb on ropes to get to with no nets. It is definitely designed more like a theme park. I thought that same thing. The big tower looks very dangerous and is very crowded. While I did have fun with my 3 year old, we hung out at the slides and swings and I went down with her. This place is definitely for the older kids and for people who don’t mind falling from...
