This lake is beautiful. It used to be one of my favorite places to camp and bring my family. They changed hands about a year ago. And their customer service skills are terrible. People come to the lake to play and have a good time. And if you're camping, then you've paid to play and have a good time. The park attendants stopped at my campsite and asked if I camped here last night, and I responded with yes. They informed me that it was no longer a campsite and it had been changed to a day use area. The park was not busy, and I explained that my tent was huge and it wouldn't fit in the other sites available. They acted as if it was not that big of a deal and took off. Later that day, a couple of park attendants stopped again at the campsite and noticed there were no adults available to speak to and decided that talking to the children was a good idea. It's not, by the way. They demanded that I move my tent immediately and then proceeded to sit across the way and stare at my family and I. They proceeded to argue and get snappy instead of offering a solution. As I said above, my giant tent is not fitting. The weeds were up to my thigh. I just decided it would be better to pack up my family of 7 people and all of our stuff and go home. I requested a refund for that night. I was told I wouldn't be getting a refund because the time frame had lapsed. Well, after 2 hours and four phone calls, I was able to get my refund.
The park was not busy! My tent was not in the way! It was already mid afternoon. I had a ton of stuff and 7 people, and there was no reason why I couldn't just sleep that night and take my tent down at 8:00 a.m. which is what I requested to do, but they chose to lose the money and upset the customer.
And apparently, as she's so rudely told me. My tent was too big to be there anyway, and the only tent size allowed at sites is a 4-6 man dome...
Read moreour first time to lake murray; the lake is beautiful; but our camp site was awful; tipps point #17. when we made our reservation; it did not show or say that it was right across from the public bath rooms and showers; it was a horrible experience!! there was a pitiful excuse for a fire ring; just some rocks in a circle. thank goodness we have friends camping down the road as this camp site was miserable!! when we first arrived; a car pulled up at the bathrooms right across from us; opened his hatch back and starting playing rap music; and washed his car; from water from the showers for about an hour; until finally the park gurl drove up and made him leave. there was a stream of probably 1,000 people per day and thru out the night at the restrooms; it was a complete night...
Read moreWhy so blue? Lake Murray is so blue for several reasons. The first is because water absorbs the red portion of the visible light spectrum. This means that our eyes see the complimentary color on the spectrum-blue.
The second reason Lake Murray is so blue is because the water is so clear. Light bounces off particles and sediment in water. When there is a lot of sediment, the water can appear brown or green instead of blue
How low can you go? The depth of Lake Murray varies greatly. In some locations the lake reaches a depth of 9o feet. The greatest depth of the area before you is approximately 6o feet. At that depth there is no visible light. Because the water is in total darkness there are no plants, few fish,...
